Gerald G. âBudâ Shank, 73, a resident of rural Huntertown, passed away at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Auburn July 23, 1937, a son of Glenn A. and Velma L. (Tooman) Shank, and as a young man served with the Air National Guard.
The surviving relatives include his wife, Sally; five children, Lenny G. Shank, Kerry J. Shank, Karyn Wolfe, Linda Faylor and Kevin Shank; a
sister, Virginia Harrod;
Just seconds from being approved, an ordinance on Columbia City employee wages, benefits, holidays and vacations reached a snag â the dug-in heels of Councilman Walt Crowder.
The ordinance established new wage ranges for all city employees, with standard hourly rates for each position or job and a range of bottom to top, depending on seniority.
But it was one item on the final page regarding benefits, that created a lift in Crowderâs eyebrow.

On a night when the Lady Eagles donned pink shirts to show their support for finding a cure for cancer on “Dig For A Cure” night, it was the Heritage Lady Patriots who left Donald S. Weeks Gymnasium with a victory, taking a hard-fought five-game win over the Lady Eagles.
After dropping the first game 20-25, the Lady Eagles came back to take the next two games 25-17 and 28-26 and had built a 7-2 lead in game four before falling 19-25. The Lady Eagles dropped the deciding fifth game by a 10-15 count to fall in the match 2-3.
At the monthly meeting of the 4-H Inc. board of directors, Bill Leeuw, board president, reported the track wall has been reworked by Superior Excavating, the dirt moved and smoothed by Wigent Excavating and the area has been seeded.
Matt Gibson of 4-H council spoke on behalf of the Beef Club, reporting the organizers of the Beef Show held last weekend at the fairgrounds, Tri State Polled Hereford Club, were very pleased with the facilities and the turnout.
