CHURUBUSCO — It’s funny how sports presents second chances.
A new season and new brackets drawn up for the 2010 sectional round, Churubusco (9-1) had the same team welcoming them into the playoffs.
Last season, Adams Central (7-3) was moving on to the semifinal round after scoring 20 unanswered points against the Eagles.
BREMEN — Heroes are made in the postseason, and Bremen’s Braxton Miller became one in Friday night’s Sectional 26 opener.
After a Whitko field goal to start overtime, Miller’s three-yard touchdown gave Bremen a 20-14 victory to put the Lions in the second round against Fairfield, a 45-0 winner over Woodlan.
“It’s just too much, and the crowd just went wild,” Miller said of his game-winning score. “It’s just overwhelming. It’s awesome.”
COLUMBIA CITY — There were no surprises Friday night for the Eagles as they took on a winless DeKalb team, picking up a 41-21 win earning a trip to the second round of the sectional tournament.
The Barons came into Friday night’s game averaging just seven points a game and only 63 points on the season.
Though DeKalb tripled their average, it wasn’t enough to defeat the Eagles.
Columbia City jumped out to a quick 13-0 lead in the first eight minutes of the game.
