Columbia City Parks Director Mark Green told the Columbia City Board of Works today that there will be no Christmas lights in the park this year.
According to Green, The Whitley County Chamber of Commerce has decided not to have the Wonderland of Lights in 2010.
âI wanted to make it clear this was not a Parks Department decision,â said Green.
Green also announced that the department will be closing its public restrooms next week, with the exception of the bathrooms at the trailhead near the Blue River Trail located near the fire museum.
AKRON — Columbia City and Whitko, volleyball teams that are just miles apart, took the road for Tippecanoe Valley Thursday night for a four-game battle.
The Lady Wildcats showed their determination after suffering two previous losses to Columbia City, but faced a 3-1 defeat.
“We knew they would be out to get us”, Lady Eagle Head Coach Trish Hinen said.
The beginning of game one was a close battle, with the score tied 7-7.

Losing five seniors, two of which were all-conference selections, the Lady Eagles were in the midst of a rebuilding period within the program.
New head coach Trinda Goings added to the changes happening at ’Busco. After some time away from coaching, Goings returned with a young team and a work in progress.

It was the common thread linking each of the award winners at Wednesdayâs Whitley County Chamber of Commerce annual meeting.
Mike and Kim Balser, owners of the Brownstone On State, were named Small Business of the Year; USSI was named Large Business of the Year; Leadership Whitley County was named the Jewel of the Community; Jacie Worrick and June Keiser were surprised with the Chairmanâs Choice Award and Kristi Maloney was honored as Ambassador of the Year.
Concerned residents of Whitley County faced the countyâs plan commission Wednesday night with questions and strong comments about the possibility of wind-harnessing machines popping up throughout the county.
The result of the several hour-long meeting was the commission decided to take another month to look at the issue.
The commission, faced with a proposed ordinance designed to regulate that very thing say they are also concerned that without regulation, large windmills could some day pepper the landscape without any county oversight.

Police have charged a Whitley County man with rape as a result of an incident over the weekend.
According to the Whitley County Sheriffâs Department, 40-year-old Kent Frenger of Churubusco held a woman at knifepoint before raping her and forcing her to perform a sex act on him.
Police say Frenger and the victim, who had previously dated, left a bar and returned to his house where the incident occurred.
The woman allegedly fell asleep, but asked to be taken home when she awoke.
Mildred Pauline Harreld, 95, a former resident of Ege and more recently of Snellville, Ga., passed away at 8:24 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010 at Golden Living-Medical Arts in Lawrenceville, Ga.
She was born June 3, 1915 in Marion, a daughter of Paul and Mildred (Smith) Dooley. She is a widow of Albert M. Harreld.
The surviving relatives include her daughters, Alberta Sams and Arlene Owens; and two brothers, Merrill Dean Dooley and Melvin âMickâ Dooley.
Whitley County's three teams all head into the postseason with a conference title and an 8-1 record. Columbia City hosts a winless DeKalb team. ’Busco gets a rematch of their first round loss to Adams Central at home. Whitko hits the road to Bremen.

Students here get a healthy dose of that first member of the Three Râs no matter whose class theyâre in.
Teachers and administrators at Whitley County Consolidated Schools have been boosting instruction in reading, even in subjects that involve using test tubes, a slide rule or studying the Civil War.
