CHURUBUSCO — A dash of Kyle Mathewson. A hint of an overpowering Churubusco defense along with a couple of pounds of Kyle Monk and you’ve got a recipe for what class 3A No. 8 Angola experienced Friday night.
The Hornet team that was set to dispose the class A No. 3 Eagles in a battle of unbeatens had troubles of their own. Mathewson's 219 rushing yards on the ground combined with a stuffing ’Busco defense, silenced the questions of which team was better by putting Angola away early 34-7.
WATERLOO – One of the true measures of a successful team is how they handle both success and disappointment.
The Columbia City Eagle football team handled the success of opening wins to move to a 3-0 record to begin the season.
Friday night the test for the Eagles was to see how they would react to the disappointment of last week’s heartbreakingly close 31-28 loss to Homestead. The Eagles responded by traveling to Northeast Hoosier Conference DeKalb and dropping the Barons by 28-3 score.
SOUTH WHITLEY — Giving Whitko’s homecoming crowd something to cheer about, Whitko totally dominated winless Wabash on both sides of the ball leading the Wildcats to another win Friday night, 38-0.
“It’s just a good total team effort tonight,” Whitko Head Coach Wayne Swender said.
On offense, the ‘Cats' running backs controlled the offense, totaling 292 yards on the ground compared to Wabash’s minus 25.
