Office: Online voter registrations trickle in

Whitley County voter registration clerk Debbie Beers says online registration through the state’s new online service has been slow locally.
“I usually get a couple a day,” Beers said.
Since the service became available July 1, Beers estimated about 50 Whitley County voters have registered for this fall’s general election.
“I think maybe people just aren’t aware that it’s available,” Beers said of the service.

Filling a niche for senior housing

     When someone reaches a point in life where it’s no longer as easy to live in the sprawling ranch home or two-story house in the city, a nursing home may not be the first place someone wants to live out their years.
     With that in mind, three local developers have taken to the task of providing apartments geared toward seniors.

Letha B. Werstler, 83

September 2, 2010

Letha B. Werstler, 83, of Pierceton, passed away at 2:04 a.m. today, Sept. 2, 2010 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. She was born Nov. 5, 1926 in Marion to Leslie H. and Emma Z. (Wolfe) Wagoner. She was married to John J. “Buster” Werstler who preceded her in death.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Burns and a brother, Merritt Wagoner.

Nancy Sue Militello, 68

Nancy Sue Militello, 68, passed away Aug. 26, 2010. She was born on May 23, 1942 and a native of Columbia City. She was married to Joseph Militello, Jr. April 5, 1988 in Tampa, Fla. She moved to McAlpin, Fla. with Joseph seven years ago and made it her home.

Nancy is survived by her brother-in-law James (Susan) Militello, Sr. of McAlpin; two nephews, Vincent (Christa) Rosales of Tampa, Fla. and James Militello, Jr. of McAlpin; and one niece, Elizabeth Stanley of McAlpin.
