The Columbia City Park Board held its monthly meeting Monday with Park Director Mark Green providing several updates.
The future of Burnworth Pool was the topic of considerable discussion.
A pool committee has been organized to determine a proposed objective and/or assignment for the future of the facility. A survey was conducted by the committee which resulted in numerous recommendations.
A fight against a proposed rate increase at the Tri-Lakes Sewer District has gone to the next level.
A petition was filed this week in Whitley Circuit Court which requested the court review the past proceedings involved with the rate increase and dismiss the sewer rate ordinance passed by the sewer district’s board in June.
Included in the petition is also a request to dismiss the vote by the two-person sewer district authority board, which held a hearing in mid-August about the proposed rate increase.
COLUMBIA CITY — The Columbia City Lady Eagle volleyball squad played host Tuesday night to cross-county rival Churubusco at the Donald S. Weeks Gymnasium.
Columbia City shook off a sluggish first half in the opening game to close out the visitors in dominating fashion with a 25-18, 25-10, 25-16 three-game sweep.
After Columbia City jumped out to a 3-0 lead in game one, several CC errors, including two service errors and a net violation eventually let ’Busco pull even at 11-11.
COLUMBIA CITY — The Columbia City Lady Eagle soccer team hosted a hard-nosed back-and-forth battle Tuesday night against Northeast Hoosier Conference’s power Homestead (5-1).
Unfortunately, their efforts fell short in a 5-0 loss to the Lady Spartans.
The first half began with a strong effort from the Lady Eagles, keeping the Spartans from scoring for most of the first half.
The two conference foes battled it out in the middle of the field with neither team allowing the other a shot on goal.

For Columbia City boys’ tennis, it makes this week a big one with a dual match against Norwell Thursday followed by a Wawasee Invitational where the Eagles are looking to defend their title.

Columbia City stood toe-to-toe with the Spartans for nearly the entire first half tied 1-1. Two goals with under four minutes left in the first half put Homestead up 3-1 before going on to beat Columbia City 4-2. Senior Devin Rice scored a goal in each half of the Eagles loss that drops them to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the NHC.
Whitko golf edged by West Noble, Manchester
The Whitko girls’ golf team was on the road Tuesday night for a three-way golf match at South Shore Golf Course in Syracuse.
The Lady Wildcats finished third on the night by two strokes falling to West Noble 226-228. Manchester won the night with a score of 206.
Whitko scores included: Taylor Snavley 45, Chloe Nestel 54, Taylor Pottenger 60, Emily Weigold 70, Hannah Himes 69.
WARSAW — Out for a midweek run Tuesday, Columbia City cross country was in action at the Warsaw Invitational running into its well-known foe of No. 8 Huntington North.
The No. 15 Lady Eagles were among eight girls teams finishing third with 58 points behind Warsaw’s 52 points.
The leaders at the forefront for the City girls squad didn’t stray from the norm with senior Renee Menzie and freshmen Samantha Roush and Brooke Werstler in the lead pack.
