Police seeking two wanted on drug charges

COLUMBIA CITY — The Whitley County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office reported this morning that no arrests have been made yet in the case relating to the death of a five-month-old girl Jan. 3 in Columbia City.
On Friday, the prosecutor’s office filed charges relating to the manufacture of methamphetamine against Travis A. Wonderly, 21 and Janel M. Creech, 36. Arrest warrants have been issued for the pair.
Both suspects were charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, a Class B Felony, maintaining a common nuisance, a Class D Felony and possession of paraphernalia, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Fourth-quarter spurt lifts City over Bellmont

   COLUMBIA CITY — Preservation is what Columbia City girls’ basketball did Saturday night in a Northeast Hoosier Conference home game.
   With one of its top scorers out due to injury, the Lady Eagles (9-5, 1-3 NHC) fought through first-half struggles to overcome Bellmont (6-7, 1-3 NHC) in the fourth quarter and grab their first conference win, 48-38.

First-year Eagle flies at NHC meet

   FORT WAYNE — Maybe as simple as his last name, Smith, a first-year Columbia City Eagle swimmer came in, dove into the pool and made a name for himself.
   Despite not having competed until his junior year, Cole Smith had the talent Saturday to be among the best in the Northeast Hoosier Conference.
   The annual meet that brings all seven teams together at Homestead High School. Not known to many in the swimming realm yet,  Smith came in under the radar but left with a spot on the first-team  all-conference.

Zebras get past Whitko

   ROCHESTER — Despite the treacherous snow, Whitko (7-7) traveled to Rochester (8-6) Saturday night in hopes of picking up a conference win.
   After having a 12-4 lead in the first quarter, the Lady Wildcats let their advantage slip away and fell short to the Lady Zebras, 59-47.
   The Lady ’Cats jumped out to a quick lead and barely held it through the final seconds of the first quarter, when the Zebras hit a three-pointer to put the score at 16-15.
