January 22, 2011

SOUTH WHITLEY — Statistics truly can tell the story of a ball game, provided that you get the right set of statistics.
For example, through three quarters in Friday night’s Three Rivers Conference boys’ basketball match-up between the host Whitko Wildcats and the Northfield Norsemen, the visitors were shooting a  blistering 63 percent from the field compared to 45 percent for the Wildcats.

CHURUBUSCO — The Churubusco Eagles proved they could fly higher than Hornets Friday night against Angola 59-47.
Though the Hornets are winless (0-10), they put up a fight against ’Busco — who didn’t pull away until the second half.
“It’s scary to play someone who hasn’t won,” Churubusco head coach Michael McBride said. “They want to get that win.
“They’ve played some really quality people.”

Struggles follow Lady Eagles on road at DeKalb 36-35

WATERLOO — It doesn’t seem like much — a 15-foot shot. No one to block the shot, just a shooter and the ball.
It might be known as the freebie in basketball but free throws weren’t a guarantee Friday night.
The foul line proved costly on the road for Columbia City girls’ basketball. Going 5-for-16 at Northeast Hoosier Conference foe DeKalb, the Lady Eagles went 0-for-6 in the fourth quarter opening the door for the Lady Barons.
