Virginia Allard is transported into Parkview Whitley Hospitalâs new facility at 1260 E. Ind. 205 this morning by Huntington Paramedic Brian Miller. Allardâs transfer was part of the hospitalâs official opening. The transfer of patients on the scheduled opening date culminates months of preparations for the occupation of Parkview Health Systemâs 165,000-square-foot, $42 million hospital.

INDIANAPOLIS â The annual Indiana School Board Association Conference was held Sept. 26-37 in Indianapolis and several Whitley County Consolidated Schools board members attended.
The board members reported on the conference at their regular session earlier this week.
Board member Deborah Hiss said she found that in comparison to many Indiana schools, Whitley County is ahead of the pack in many areas.
âItâs very impressive to know that weâre doing as much as we are for our students,â Hiss said.

COLUMBIA CITY â Poetry came alive at Mary Raber Elementary School Wednesday morning when Valerie Chamness and Joshua Daniels performed verbal acrobatics during a student convocation.
The married couple from Asheville, N.C., visited MRES with their âPoetry Alive,â production. They have traveled around the world and the United States sharing poems in a way that most children and teachers have never witnessed.

CHURUBUSCO â Smith-Green Community Schools wants the communityâs opinion about whatâs going on at the two schools â both inside and out.
âWe want to know what the parents and this community think about us. We want to hear about our walls and our classes. We want to hear their opinions,â said Steve Darnell, superintendent at SGCS.

COLUMBIA CITY â John Robert Walter, 92, of Columbia City, passed away peacefully at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, at his home. He had been in failing health since May, 2011.
John Robert was born Dec. 27, 1918, in Essex County, Ontario, Canada where his father was working for the Ford Motor Company in Windsor.
He was a son of Albert âSisâ and Chloe Myrtle (Taylor) Walter.
In 1919, his family moved to Columbia City.
His school years were spent in Columbia City where he was involved in football, track, basketball and baseball.
