October 17th
Ann R. Barrett, 94, a resident of Churubusco, passed away at 3:50 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne following a brief illness.
Mrs. Barrett was born Nov. 1, 1916 in Bedford, a daughter of John Owen and Ruth (Kindred) Roberts, and graduated from Shawswick High School.
A nurse all of her adult life, she graduated from St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in Indianapolis, later earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Indiana University, and also earned a master’s degree in public health administration from the University of Michigan.
COLUMBIA CITY – Housing is a big issue for the city heading into the future.
It was a heavily-discussed topic Tuesday when Whitley Crossing served as host for a mayoral forum at its annual meeting held at Columbia City’s Peabody Public Library.

COLUMBIA CITY — While the West Nile Virus has reappeared in the Hoosier State, local officials report there has been no reported case in Whitley County in 2011, a positive sign with the season coming to an end. The county’s last positive test came in September of 2010.

Diana Moyer, of South Whitley, joins her fellow Red Hat Strutters in singing along with Lee Greenwood’s “Proud To Be An American” Oct. 8 during South Whitley’s Souper Stompin’ Saturday. The Strutters donned pink instead of red in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
COLUMBIA CITY — An art teacher with Whitley County Consolidated School Corporation has been honored by the Art Education Association of Indiana.
Mary Hilger was selected to receive the Outstanding Art Educator of the Year award, by the association, which will hold its annual convention Nov. 4-6 in Indianapolis.

CHURUBUSCO — Cheerleading is a sisterhood of sorts – and for three Churubusco sisters it truly is.
Sisters Peyton, Sydney and Sierra Hunsberger all cheer for the Churubusco Eagles.

October 11th
Clarence Randel Worley, Sr., 55, a resident of Churubusco, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011 at 10:46 a.m.
He was born Oct. 12, 1955 in Whitley City, Ky., a son of Garrett C. and Pearlie Ethel (Phillips) Worley.
He served in the U. S. Navy.
On June 6, 1994, he married Jacqueline Ann Guisinger who survives.
CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco Town Council approved the Pay Gov Program last week.
After Geri Johnson, clerk/treasurer, takes training, credit and debit cards can be used to pay utility bills at her Town Hall office.

COLUMBIA CITY — The first thing Greg Hockemeyer, an associate at Myers Tison Hockemeyer & McNagny Law Firm, wanted to do was answer the question most asked of him when discussing his law firm’s work on its current project.
“The main thing everybody wants to know is ‘are we going to put the Post sign back up’. The answer is: ‘Yes.”’

CHURUBUSCO — When students at Churubusco Junior Senior High School see Chad Fulkerson at their school they see authority – and a long-time friend.
Fulkerson, Churubusco Pol-ice Town Marshal, is a School Resource Officer who spends four days on patrol in town and also at the school.
