Regional man pleads guilty in Unemployment Insurance fraud case

INDIANAPOLIS – Henry Torres of Cass County plead guilty Thursday to theft in connection with fraudulently collecting unemployment insurance. Torres purposefully defrauded the system by collecting unemployment insurance benefits while employed.

Child air-lifted in Monday afternoon crash

COLUMBIA CITY - A three to four year old boy was seriously injured Monday afternoon in a single vehicle accident. The boy was air-lifted to a hospital in Fort Wayne and the driver, his mother, was transported by ambulance to Parkview Whitley with serious injuries.
According to Whitley County Sheriff's Deputy Scott Schmidt, the child was in the front seat, possibly causing more injury than if the car seat had been placed in the back.

Congressman Stutzman gets schooled at Churubusco

CHURUBUSCO - Earlier this semester Representative Marlin Stutzman, of Indiana’s 3rd Congressional District, paid a visit to Churubusco High School.
Congressman Stutzman listened to and discussed multiple student presentations regarding how to reduce the national debt.

Representative Stutzman’s visit served as a culminating event concluding a three week project in which students in Mr. Ben Jagger’s personal finance class researched the national economy and developed realistic plans and strategies for reducing national debt.

Mildred E. Wagner, 99, of Fort Wayne, passed away Friday, Nov. 18, 2011.
Born Dec. 9, 1911 in Fort Wayne, Mildred worked at Magnavox for 32 years, retiring in 1975.
She was a member of Anthony Wayne First Church of God, Pythian Sisters, and Loyal Service Club.
Mildred is survived by her son, David (Patricia) Wagner of La Center, Wash.; daughter, E. Maxine (Henry) Kolb of Albion; 10 grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren; and her cat, Roxy.

Whitko falls to Elkhart, 52-28

SOUTH WHITLEY — There are plenty of teams that would be disappointed with a 24-point loss.
Whitko Girls Head Coach Brandon Bradley, on the other hand, is content with the way the team played against a tough Elkhart Memorial Saturday.
Though the 52-28 loss may appear bad, the Lady Wildcats lost to the Lady Chargers by 46 points last season (79-33).
Bradley is happy with the team’s effort.
“That’s the absolute best they could’ve played,” Bradley said.
