COLUMBIA CITY — A young girl shot two deer with one bullet Wednesday, a feat many hunters don’t experience in a lifetime.
Kelly Schwenn of Etna-Troy Township walked into the woods with her rifle, and walked out of the woods with two does.
Schwenn and her mom, Wendy, have spent the season in a blind in a field west of Albion.
The eight-year-old Northern Heights Elementary School third-grader put down one game to engage another type of game; two in fact.
Kelly was playing her Nintendo DS, a handheld video game, when her mom tapped her on the shoulder to tell her there was a deer in sight.

COLUMBIA CITY — Warsaw proved that even the best of teams can be beaten.
Columbia City, ranked in the Associated Press and Indiana Coaches Association polls, as well as semi-state qualifier last season, was taken down by the Tigers Saturday night.
The Eagles’ 28-17 lead in the second quarter turned into a four-point loss, 63-59, in Columbia City’s home-opener.
“The good news is, we’re pretty good. The bad news is, (we think) we’re pretty good,” Columbia City Head Coach Chris Benedict said. “We let them back in the game and it deflated our momentum. It’s frustrating.”
Terry A. Woods, 50, of Huntington, died Saturday Nov. 26, 2011, at 11:05 am at his home.
He served in the Army National Guard from 1980 to 1992.
He was born Aug. 15, 1961, in Fort Wayne, the son of Jay G. and Janice (Herndon) Woods.
Donald E. Leazier, Jr., 77, a resident of Elmira, Mich. and a former resident of the Fort Wayne area, died at 4 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at the home of his daughter in rural DeKalb County.
Mr. Leazier was born Sept. 15, 1934, in Fort Wayne, a son of Donald Everett and Goldie (Guisinger) Leazier, Sr.
He was a 30-year U.S. Navy veteran.
Surviving relatives include his four children, Goldie Dimmick of Huntertown, Theresa Leazier of Auburn, Kenneth G. Leazier of Avilla, and Paula Porter of Auburn.
COLUMBIA CITY — Joyce A. Darrow, 77, of rural Whitley County, died Saturday morning, Nov. 26, 2011, at her home.
She was born July 14, 1934 in Peoria, Ill., a daughter of Harold E. and Marie E. (Hall) Linden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David L. Darrow.
Surviving relatives include two sons, David L. Darrow of Fort Wayne and Scott Darrow of California; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sharon Grabill of Peoria, Ill.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. There will be no service.
