There will be a new clerk-treasurer in Churubusco, as Democrat Madalyn Sade-Bartl outpolled incumbent Republican Gerri Johnson, 157 votes to 131.
Town Council will be made up of incumbent Frank A. Kessler (D), 203 votes; Alan D. Malcom (D), 175 votes; and Mark Pepple (R), 165 votes. Republicans John Hart and Pat Stanford received 137 and 128 votes, respectively. Hart was an incumbent.

SOUTH WHITLEY — Palmer E. Welty, 84, of South Whitley, died at 10:26 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.
He was born Jan. 20, 1927, in Huntington, a son of Clarence and Josephine (Stookey) Welty.
His formative years were spent in Huntington where he attended Huntington High School.
On Nov. 14, 1948, he was united in marriage to Darlene Lofland. They made their home in Huntington.
They then moved to Big Barbee Lake where they resided for 25 years.
In 1996, they moved to South Whitley.
COLUMBIA CITY — Evelyn R. Winebrenner, 82, of rural Columbia City, died at 2:42 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne where she was admitted Oct. 27.
She was born Nov. 6, 1928 in Elkhart County, a daughter of Cecil and Faith (Miller) Phend.
As a young girl, her family moved to Merriam. She graduated from Wolf Lake High School.
On May 29, 1949 she was united in marriage to Tyrus A. Winebrenner. They made their first home at Bear Lake, later moving to a farm in York Township, Noble County for 13 years.
COLUMBIA CITY — Larry T. Knafel, 69, of rural Columbia City, died unexpectedly at 1:20 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, 2011 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne from complications following surgery.
He was born Aug. 22, 1942 in Fort Wayne, a son of Omer Cleland and Bernadine M. (Witte) Knafel.
His formative years were spent in Churubusco and later Jefferson Township, Whitley County.
He graduated from Columbia City High School.
From 1960 until 1962 he served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Hancock as a machinist mate.
Carolyn A. Courtney, 74, of Fort Wayne, passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011.
Carolyn was born May 21, 1937 and grew up in Larwill, working at Jecto Plastics for 14 years.
She was a member of American Legion Post 47 Auxiliary and enjoyed shopping.
SOUTH WHITLEY — William A. Bumgardner, 86, of South Whitley, died at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011 at Parkview Main, Fort Wayne from injuries sustained in an auto accident Tuesday at the Walgreens parking lot in Huntington.
He was born May 30, 1925 in Fort Wayne, a son of Charles A. “Pat” and Mable (Allen) Bumgardner
His formative years where spent on a farm near Monroeville. He graduated from Decatur High School.
During World War II, he served with the Merchant Marines.
FORT WAYNE — Churubusco was defeated at the hands of two-time defending IHSAA Class 2A State Champion Fort Wayne Bishop Luers Friday.
The Knights took the opening kickoff and drove down the field to score in the first three minutes of the game.
Jaylon Smith capped the drive off with a seven-yard touchdown run to give the Knights a 7-0 lead.
It was the first of Smith’s three touchdowns in the contest.
With 7:24 left in the second quarter, a one-yard TD run by Smith made it a 14-0 ball game.
