COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City officials have closed a portion of the Blue River Trail temporarily while construction on a new sewer project continues.
Mike Cook, Superintendent of Columbia City’s Water Pollution Control Facility, announced Friday at the city’s meeting of the Board of Works and Safety that the trail between South Whitley and Main streets is closed while construction crews install one of two new lift stations.
“We’d like to get the word out,” said Cook.
Experience goes a long way in high school golf and Columbia City has that with its top four scorers from last season returning.
It may not seem like golfing weather now but the Eagles are already prepping for an April 12 opener against county rivals Churubusco and Whitko. With experience, expectations are higher and it starts with that first match.
CHURUBUSCO — Approximately a dozen people attended the unveiling of the Churubusco Downtown Action Plan presentation Wednesday evening at Churubusco High School.
The action plan is the result of months of studies and surveys of the town and its residents, conducted by Hyett Palma Associates for the Indiana Downtown Project.
Magdalene W. Brandt, 87, a former resident of Walkerton and South Bend, and widow of Carl Brandt, Sr., passed away at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville.
She was born in Clay City March 14, 1924, a daughter of Charles and Hester (Kendall) Staley.
The surviving relatives include two daughters, Sherian Young and Robin Williams; two sons, Thoral Brandt and Marvin Brandt; and a brother, Donald Staley.
Clarence Wayne Rosenberger, 83, of Jefferson Township, Whitley County, died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Renaissance Village where he had been a resident since Monday.
He was born Sept. 24, 1927 in Fort Wayne, a son of Clarence Z. and Ruth (Sheets) Rosenberger. As a fifth grader, his family moved to Jefferson Township from Fort Wayne. He graduated from Jefferson Center High School in 1945.
During World War II, he served in the United States Army Air Corps.
On May 18, 1947 he was united in marriage to Janice E. Sever. They moved to their present home in 1950.
CHURUBUSCO — It’s only two games into the regular season and Churubusco baseball head coach Mark Grove is already seeing a drastic difference from his team’s start a season ago.
Starting 0-5 last season, the Eagles have dealt out the losses to open March.
A 1-0 shutout victory by senior Dylan Herendeen Tuesday helped Churubusco beat Leo erasing any fears of a slow start.
