COLUMBIA CITY â€” Republicans in Columbia City chose Ryan Daniel as their candidate for mayor during Tuesday's primary election.
Daniel won the three-man race with nearly 49 percent (575 votes) of the vote. Gary Parrett finished behind Daniel with 32 percent (378) and Don Sexton collected 19 percent (227) of the vote.
Daniel will face Democrat challenger Cathy Heritier in November.

COLUMBIA CITY â€” by 11 a.m. today, Whitley County Clerk of Courts Debbie Beers described voter turnout as steady throughout nine precincts tallied in four voting locations.
"The absentee voting was very, very light," she said, reporting 185 votes in through mail-in and walk-in absentee voting.
Columbia City residents are voting for the Republican candidate for mayor between Don Sexton, Ryan Daniel and Gary Parrett.
The winner of the election today will square off against unopposed Democrat Cathy Heritier in November.
Polls close at 6 p.m.
