County keeps Parkview as EMS provider

COLUMBIA CITY — Paramedic and County Commissioner Don Amber said he could see the writing on the wall.
His eyesight was as keen as his passion for the county’s Emergency Medical Service — a passion that compelled him to engage in a campaign that, if successful, would cost him his livelihood.

County paying back money owed

COLUMBIA CITY — The Whitley County Council received an update on LOIT, or Local Option Income Tax from Todd Samuelson of Umbaugh & Associates during the board’s regular meeting Tuesday morning.
According to Samuelson, the state has reported that local units of government were overpaid in 2009, 2010 and will be in 2011.

Whitko gets late inning heroics

   SOUTH WHITLEY — The Wildcats have had their fair share of dramatic wins at home this season, including a walk-off home run by Josh Pratt against Churubusco last month.
   Wednesday’s game at home against Southwood followed suit with extra innings and a rally to win the game 4-3.

Lady Eagles top win total from 2010

   LEO — For two seasons the Columbia City girls’ tennis team has finished with an 8-9 record and not been able to get over the elusive .500 mark.
   Wednesday, the Lady Eagles made sure 2011 will ended differently.
   Winning its ninth match of the season, Columbia City beat Leo 4-1 on the road insuring a winning record at the end of the season.

Southwood fires off win at Whitko

Whitko’s Jill Van Hoozen fires to first base during the Lady Wildcats home game Wednesday against Southwood. Whitko fell to the Lady Knights 6-0.

Leo tags out Columbia City 12-5

Columbia City base runner Connor Reed attempts to dive back to third base as the Leo catcher tags him out Wednesday. The Eagles fell to the Lions in a home game 12-5. Connor Slavich led the Columbia City bats with two doubles and three RBIs.

Rochester serves up win on Whitko

Whitko’s No. 2 singles player Abby Marshall serves in the Lady Wildcats match at home Wednesday against Rochester. Marshall fell in her match 3-6, 1-6 as Whitko fell to the Zebras 4-1.
