Earl B. Eckert, 89, of Columbia City, died at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 5, 2011 at Peabody Retirement Home in North Manchester.
He was born in Huntington, April 5, 1922 to the late Paul J. and Agnes (Campbell) Eckert.
On Nov. 4, 1944 he married Betty J. Lee in Huntington. She preceded him in death March 8, 2004.
Survivors include his three sons, Steve Eckert, of Columbia City; Randy Eckert, of Fort Meyers, Fla., and Mark Eckert, of Fort Wayne; brother, Austin Eckert, of Columbia City; and sister, Phyllis Reith, of Columbia City.
CHURUBUSCO — There is no choir/show choir teacher yet at Churubusco High School and Mark Grove is, again, the head baseball coach.
At the Smith-Green Community School Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday it was announced by Steve Darnell, superintendent, Churubusco High School still does not have a choir/show choir teacher.

COLUMBIA CITY – The state of energy reliability locally is considered “positive,” according to a pair of experts speaking at a forum Tuesday night hosted by the Whitley County Patriots at the Church of the Nazarene.
Larry Graham, public affairs officer for Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) was on hand to discuss the current and future state of the area’s natural gas supply.
