COLUMBIA CITY — The Blue River Trail expansion at Morsches Park will cost $382,100 and could possibly be completed in two phases, it was learned Monday night.
Derek Fredrickson, with Engineering Resources of Fort Wayne, presented a time line, cost and funding update on the Blue River Trail expansion to Columbia City’s Park Board at its monthly meeting.

COLUMBIA CITY — Thelma E. Reed Veitch, 95, formerly of Big Lake, died at 9:04 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2011 at Dupont Hospital, Fort Wayne where she was admitted the day before.
She was born Jan. 6, 1916 in Noble County, a daughter of Samuel Delbert and Lola A. (Wilkerson) Paulus.
Her formative years were spent in Noble County. She graduated from Wolf Lake High School.
She worked at Blue Bell, Grant’s Warehouse in Fort Wayne and assisted at Reed’s Shoe Store.
Following her graduation from Fort Wayne Beauty College in 1967, she worked for Evelyn Street until 1978.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — To Whitley County they have always been The Little Fiddlers – but to the world of country music they have just become The Tennessee Hot Damns.
Siblings Megan and Marcus Mullins are all grown up now and on their own. Formerly from Columbia City, Megan and her husband, John Bohlinger, and Marcus Mullins have joined forces to form a new band.

COLUMBIA CITY — With the Burnworth Memorial Pool now closed for the season, pool manager Phil Stanczak provided park board members a financial update on the pool at Monday evening’s meeting.
“I had a good year except for the start was a little bit rocky because obviously the issue with the pump which we ultimately got fixed, but we only lost a day or two,” Stanczak said.

Local ultralight enthusiasts took to the skies during the weekend to enjoy favorable wind currents and balmy temperatures and spend time hundreds of feet about Whitley County.

COLUMBIA CITY — He had an idea to showcase the rich quality and diverse people of Whitley County through a short film.
John Burkett, of Columbia City, did exactly that two weeks ago – and it’s already had more than 1,000 hits on his web site.
