COLUMBIA CITY — For 52 years, the Burnworth Memorial Pool has been part of Columbia City’s aquatics — but a recent decision by the Columbia City Park Board to opt-out of its lease agreement, closing the pool in 2014, has left some community members with mixed emotions.
The tough decision was finalized after board members took hundreds of surveys into consideration from open community forums and online submissions.

COLUMBIA CITY — When representatives from Destiny Rescue gave a missions presentation to members of New Hope Wesleyan Church, they did not know that Rob and Beth Arms, of Columbia City, were looking for an opportunity to give back.
COLUMBIA CITY — Everything from the Grinch on a rooftop to a 12-foot Santa Claus decorate local houses in Columbia City each year.
Some decorations are store-bought, while others are homemade, but in the upcoming week, each house in the city limits will be judged in the 21st Annual Christmas Lighting Award Contest.
Judging the contest will be Columbia City Common Council President Dan Weigold and Councilman Ben Romine — who will stroll down the streets of Columbia City looking for houses that beat the competition.
Martha M. (Johnson) Burnau, 94, passed away at 4 p.m. Nov. 27, 2012, in her home.
She was born on Feb. 11, 1918, in Huntington County, to Flora (Weber) and David Roscoe Johnson.
She married Donald T. Burnau in Markle Jan. 11, 1941. He preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 1993.
Surviving relatives include three sons, one daughter, six grandchildren, three greatgrandchildren and a sister in law.
