SOUTH WHITLEY — Since Logan Irwin was a young boy his father Rob knew he was going to be a good basketball player. What Rob didn’t know, however, is just how good his son would be.
Logan joined the top scorers in the state after surpassing his 2,000th point Friday night in Whitko’s home game against North Miami. The sharp-shooter’s 27 points lifted his career scoring to 2,015 and helped the Wildcats to a 85-62 win over the Warriors.
Logan’s mom, Krista, said she felt the same as Rob — nervous.
CHURUBUSCO — The crowd in Churubusco, having just watched a Lady Eagle loss to Lakeland, watched its boys team return the favor to the Lakers in the second contest of the ‘Busco-hosted double-header by a score of 47-44.
In the first eight minutes, the score was knotted at two, four and nine. Eagles Smith, Austin Goepfrich, Dylan Jones and Josh LeFever all scored, as did Lakers Tim Abbott, Cody Richardson and Jalen King. King hit from long range as the buzzer sounded to even the score at 9-9.
Tied at 13, Lakeland went on a tear, notching nine of the next 12 points.
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — The Department of Defense is planning a mission change for Indiana Air National Guard’s 122nd Fighter Wing in Fort Wayne.
An area newspaper reports the wing’s A-10 jets will be replaced by MC-12 aircraft, a medium- to low-altitude, twin-engine turboprop aircraft with a primary mission is providing intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support directly to ground forces.
Five bases that fly the A-10 Warthogs, including Fort Wayne’s, are slated to lose those squadrons as the Pentagon transitions to the new F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
COLUMBIA CITY — A local elementary school will host international visitors who are touring the United States studying how best to educate children with autism.
Little Turtle Elementary School in Columbia City, along with Creek Side Middle School in Carmel will host the guests for the entire day Wednesday, according to a Whitley County Consolidated School Corporation press release.
