FLASHBACK: LOGAN IRWIN IN SIXTH GRADE

Logan Irwin, Whitko High School’s all-time leading scorer, eyes the basket during an elementary school game in Warsaw in February, 2006. He is being guarded by Washington Elementary School’s Brock Anson. Irwin played his elementary school ball for Warsaw’s Lincoln Elementary and was teamed with Warsaw All-Conference standout Lucas Grose. The two won Warsaw Elementary School championships in 2005 and 2006 and also played together in seventh grade at Lakeview Middle School, winning a middle school conference title.

Mabel Fisher, 89

CHURUBUSCO — Mabel Fisher, 89, a former resident of Churubusco and more recently of Etna Green, passed away at 1:40 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at her home.
She was born Jan. 3, 1923, in Chicago, a daughter of John and Rose (Herman) Fisher.
Survivors include a sister, Catherine Fisher of Fort Wayne.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Fisher.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Paul D. White, pastor of Churubusco Church of the Nazarene, officiating.

Nick Leisinger, 24

COLUMBIA CITY — Nick S. Leisinger, 24, of Columbia City, died Thursday, March 8, 2012, at his home.
He was born Feb. 27, 1988, in Waverly, Iowa, a son of Steven R. and Teresa L. (White) Leisinger.
In 1991, his family moved to Angola and later to Marion before moving to Silver Lake.
In December, 2006, Nick moved to his home in Columbia City.
He was employed at B.E. Computers and previously at Alpha Products in Elkhart.

RATE INCREASE: Water utility application brings public hearing

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City City Hall played host to the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC) and the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) for a public field hearing Thursday regarding the proposed water rate increase for the city.

A public field hearing is a formal, legal proceeding. Administrative Law Judge Angela Weber presided over the meeting and Commissioner Larry Landis was on hand for IURC.

Wednesday was Nurse Sandy Kohut’s birthday but that didn’t stop her from working. Kohut, center (and with a crown) is a registered nurse at Columbia City High School and still takes Eric Shepherd’s, right, temperature as Brice Aldrich, left, assists. She was queen for a day, but didn’t reveal how old she turned.
