Local police responded to West Buckeye Street in South Whitley Tuesday night after a car drove into a house. An ambulance was dispatched to the area, and according to police scanner traffic, the crash may have been caused by medical issues. Nobody in the house was injured. The crash remains under investigation by the South Whitley Police Department and the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department. Names of the person or persons involved in the crash were not available at press time.
CHURUBUSCO — A Churubusco town employee was fired Wednesday night after the town council listened to disputes and put the matter to a vote.
“Your counsel can contact our counsel,” said Council President Frank Kessler to former Wastewater Treatment Supervisor Bob Hyatt.
Hyatt read a letter he received Monday from Madalyn Sade-Bartl, clerk/treasurer, and Jeremy Hart, town supervisor.
“The letter was stating there was a digester spill and it was not documented nor was my supervisor notified,” said Hyatt.

WABASH — Whitko’s softball team won a lopsided 18-0 game over Wabash Wednesday night.
The Lady Wildcats collected 15 hits at Three Rivers Conference foe Wabash. Every Lady ’Cat starter recorded at least one run.
Whitko opened the game with nine runs in the first inning, including two apiece from Karissa Olinske and Audra Day. Olinske scored again in the third to make the score 10-0.
Eight Whitko players scored in the never-ending fourth frame, ending the game at 18-0.

WABASH — Whitko’s baseball team traveled to Three Rivers Conference foe Wabash on Wednesday night and lost, 6-1.
The Apaches scored the first run of the game in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.
The score held until the fifth frame, when Whitko’s Colin Nicodemus reached home plate on a single by his cousin, Ethan Nicodemus.
Wabash retaliated with five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the 6-1 win.
Fireworks demo
Franciscan Fireworks will be hosting a fireworks demo at 2300 E Cardinal Dr. Friday 8 p.m. Chairs will not be provided so spectators will need to bring their own.
Clothing giveaway Saturday
The Center will be sponsoring a free clothing giveaway for anyone in need Saturday Mens, womens, and children’s sizes available. The giveaway will start at 9 a.m. The Center is located at 201 W. Market St. in Columbia City.
