Lawrence Croy, 90

May 31, 2012

Lawrence A. Croy, 90, of Churubusco, died at 8:56 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
He was born Sept. 21, 1921, to Charles “Chick” Andrew and Marie (Kirncher) Croy.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bonnie (Tonkel) Croy he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, two brothers, a half-brother, a half-sister and a granddaughter.

NDP: National Day of Prayer

COLUMBIA CITY — The Whitley County National Day of Prayer (NDP) team kicked off a month of praying for the community with a 5k Run, Walk for Jesus event April 28.
The run began at The Center with Pastor Tom Beers, from the Nazarene church, leading the racers in prayer.
Afterwards, the participants warmed up in The Center where Julie Bock, Christy Shew and Kim Bolinger, the event planners, gave out awards.
Cookies were baked and passed out to the local firefighters, police officers and volunteer firemen during the NDP month by the Whitley County NDP team.

Fireworks fundraiser
Portside Pizza will host a pair of fundraisers designed to raise money for the annual Tri Lake fireworks. On Saturday, June 9, beginning at 2 p.m., a hog roast will be held which will include a silent auction, a corn hole tournament and live music. Anyone wanting to donate items to the silent auction should call Portside Pizza at 691-3333.On Saturday, June 16, a golf outing at Crooked Lake Golf Course will be held. The event will begin at 10 a.m. Sign up will be held at Portside Pizza.

RELAY FOR LIFE: Event details

COLUMBIA CITY ­— Relay for Life will take the field at Indian Springs Middle School on Saturday for a 24 hour fundraising event for the American Cancer Society.
Each hour will feature special events and theme laps.
Saturday events:
•7 a.m. registration opens and a continental breakfast will be served.
•9 a.m. start with an opening ceremony. The theme is “Purple Hour.” Participants are encouraged to wear purple.

Eagles close out regular season with a victory

ALBION — Columbia City’s golf team ended its regular season with a 172-193 win over Central Noble Wednesday at Cobblestone Golf Course.

“I was really happy with the guys. I thought they did a good job,” Columbia City Head Coach Andrew Thompson said.

The Eagles are now 4-11 and have won their last two matches.

“We’ve had a struggling season,” Thompson said. “It’s good to win our last two going into sectionals.

“We’ll take the momentum and run with it tomorrow at Stonehenge.

Columbia City is expected to tee-off from 10:50 to 11:30 a.m.

be held Saturday, June 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Columbia City Elks Lodge #1417, 109 S. Main St., Columbia City.
Kit Redman passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 22, at his home in Savannah, Ga. He is survived by his wife,
Carmen Weilacher Redman; son Aaron, of Athens, Ga.; daughter Monica, of New
York, N.Y.; and three brothers, Mike ,of Columbia City; Kirby, of Minocqua, Wisc.; and
Brian, of St. Louis, Mo.
