Jodie Lynn Deck, 38, of rural Fort Wayne, died Thursday evening, Aug. 23, 2012. in Whitley County.
She was born Feb. 13, 1974, in Fort Wayne, a daughter of Roy E. Weaver and Jayme D. McClain. Her formative years were spent in Michigan. She graduated from Wayne High School.
She was employed at Columbia City Mill.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Jacob Deck and Jesse Deck, both of Columbia City; her mother, Jayme D. Hapner of Columbia City and two brothers, Randy Weaver of Michigan and Scott Weaver of Fort Wayne.
Her father and step father, Albert Hapner, preceded her in death.
Deloris Joan Reavis, 79, of Columbia City, passed away at 11:58 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at her sonâ€™s home in rural Columbia City.
Born Dec. 5, 1932, in Columbia City, she was the daughter of William Frederick and Alta Leota (Downing) Breisch.
Raised in Whitley County, she also lived in Peru, Fort Wayne and Noble County before returning to Etna-Troy Township in 1983. She graduated from Columbia City High School with the class of 1951.
Blanche Marie Ernst, 91, of Columbia City, passed away at 2:45 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at Millerâ€™s Merry Manor Inc., Columbia City.
Born Dec. 24, 1920 in Tallmadge, Summit County, Ohio, she was the daughter of William H. and Helen L. (Baum) Mohler.
As a young child, she lived in Ohio. She graduated from Coesse High School where she played on the girls basketball team.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” While the grass is a vibrant green, and it has even become long enough for Whitley County residents to use their lawn mowers, the drought is still far from over according to experts.
â€śItâ€™s eased a little bit,â€ť said David Addison, Purdue Extension Educator, 4-H Youth Development. â€śWe went from being in an extreme drought to being in a severe drought.â€ť
The four levels of drought are moderate, severe, extreme and exceptional.
INDIANAPOLIS â€” Western Governors University Indiana has selected Steel Dynamics, Inc. as the first northern Indiana employer to promote bachelorâ€™s and masterâ€™s degrees from the stateâ€™s nonprofit, online university.
The announcement pairs Indianaâ€™s eighth state university with the nationâ€™s fifth-largest steel company, which has a division in Columbia City.
â€śSteel Dynamics is home to 6,500-plus associates, many of whom will be served by our partnership with WGU Indiana,â€ť said Steel Dynamics President and CEO Mark Millett.
LARWILL â€” A tenderloin fry at the fire departmentâ€™s headquarters in Larwill today, which begins at 4 p.m., will mark the official beginning of Larwillâ€™s annual festival, Squawbuck Days, which runs until the 11 a.m. carry-in lunch on Sunday.
The 158th anniversary of the town-wide festival is sponsored by the Larwill Fire Department, Lions Club and Richland Township Community Association.
A town-wide garage sale will take place during the weekend as well as a car show.
Terry L. Farber, 61, of Columbia City, died at 5:54 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at his home. He had been in failing health.
He was born Aug. 25, 1950, at the Luckey Hospital in Wolf Lake, a son of Lawrence E. and Ruby L. (Hearld) Farber.
A member of the class of 1968 from Columbia City High School, he graduated from IPFW with a degree in Engineering.
On June 15, 1967, he was united in marriage to Marold A. Jackson. They have always made their home in the Columbia City area, moving to their present home in 1996.
Lois Evelyn Baker, 91, of Columbia City, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at Parkview Oaks, Columbia City.
Born Oct. 16, 1920, in Columbia City, she was the daughter of Charles C. and Eletha M. (Egolf) Nichols.
She has resided her entire life in the Whitley County area, attending Thorncreek Center Elementary School and Columbia City High School.
On March 22, 1947, she married Ralph E. Baker in Syracuse. She worked at Gripco, South Whitley, and retired April 1983, after 21 years of service as a shipping clerk.
CHURUBUSCO â€” Officials from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources are saying alcohol maybe have been a factor in an all-terrain vehicle accident Thursday night which killed a Fort Wayne woman and critically injured a Fort Wayne man, according to area news reports.
Killed in the accident was Jodie Deck, 38. Caleb Ball, 37 was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital and was listed in critical condition.
