Agnes Marie “Ann” Wiegman, 85, formally of Irish Lake, North Webster, died at 7:50 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at Sycamore Village, Fort Wayne where she had been a resident for the past four years.
She was born Jan. 20, 1927, in Marion, a daughter of C. John and Ada Marie (Curtis) Peoples.
Her formative years were spent in Fort Wayne. She graduated from South Side High School, Fort Wayne with the class of 1945.
COLUMBIA CITY — Just over 200 years ago, Chief Little Turtle died in 1812. It is befitting the Mihsihkinaahkwa Pow Wow 2012 was a success with more than 2,000 people attending the 17th annual event at Morsches Park in Columbia City Friday through Sunday.
Lila Park, chairwoman of the Mihsihkinaahkwa Pow Wow committee, said the pow wow is simply a big family gathering.
“The Miami people host this event and is unique because it creates a special occasion for Native Americans to come together to honor, strengthen and share traditions, with one another and with others,” said Park.
Jonathan David Richards passed into the arms of Jesus on Friday, Aug. 3, 2012.
He was born at 5:57 p.m. and died shortly after birth due to complications from type 2 osteogenesis imperfecta.
He was the beloved son of Joe and Heather (Bills) Richards of Columbia City.
Maynard Bosserman, 90, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at Kingston Care Center in Fort Wayne.
Born in Bryan, OH., Maynard worked as a Carpenter/Owner with J.L.Bosserman & Sons General Contractor for more than 50 years, retiring in 1988.
He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and enjoyed fishing and camping.
Maynard loved his family and was a very hard worker.

Columbia City, IN – 1st Source Bank announces it will break ground on a new banking center at 630 Countryside Dr. in Columbia City, across the road from the Kroger Plaza.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Wednesday, August 15 at 11:00 a.m.

COLUMBIA CITY — Saturday’s birthday party was four years in the making for Charlotte Eun Joo Smith, known as Charley, to her new adoptive family.
Shawn and Megan Smith, of Indianapolis, adopted Charley from Seoul, South Korea. The process took 14 months, but on May 26, Shawn and Megan welcomed their daughter into the family.
“When we were ready to start a family, we did not feel that our children needed to be biological to be ours. Our daughter was simply in South Korea,” said Megan, who is originally from Columbia City.
COLUMBIA CITY — Indiana conservation officers are investigating the apparent drowning of a Fort Wayne man on a northwest Whitley County Lake.
Officers say 29-year-old James Beck was swimming Saturday around 1:45 p.m. toward a floating raft on Old Lake when his girlfriend spotted him struggling.
Despite her attempt to swim out and help him, she couldn't hold on to him as he struggled and he disappeared under the surface of the water.
Divers from five different agencies spent approximately seven hours searching for the body. He was recovered in about 20 feet of water.

COLUMBIA CITY — For the third year in a row, Whitley County Consolidated Schools will be offering teacher training for autistic students, implementing a strategy teachers can follow to better meet the needs of students.
After receiving a two year grant, WCCS has already been working with the Indiana Resource Center for Autism, who provides trainers and expert consultants to schools in the state, and this year WCCS’ teachers will receive training again using the special education grant dollars.
COLUMBIA CITY — Teachers who will enter the Whitley County Consolidated Corporation as first-year teachers in August will receive mentoring through the district’s New Teacher program.
Research shows educators are more likely to stay in education if they are supported or mentored during their first two years on the job, according to Whitley County Consolidated School (WCCS) Dr. Patricia O’Connor.
“It’s a coaching model to really help our new teachers,” said O’Connor.
