Columbia City held its homecoming game Friday night, crowning Russell Hazelet and Audrey Gruettert as king and queen.

’Busco takes fourth consecutive shutout

LIGONIER — Churubusco’s football game against West Noble came with no surprises, as the undefeated Eagles topped the winless Chargers 60-0 in Ligonier Friday.

’Busco jumped out to a 46-0 lead in the rainy first half and scored two more touchdowns in the second half.

The first play from scrimmage set the tone for the game, as the Eagles scored on a 65-yard play with a pass to Caleb Teusch, making the score 6-0 with 10 seconds off the clock.

Eagles fall in heart-breaker

COLUMBIA CITY — They say close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, but the Columbia City Eagle football squad came as close as possible without winning to downing undefeated Northeast Hoosier Conference foe New Haven on a wet, rainy homecoming night.

The Eagles fell by a single point in overtime, 28-27, to the Class 4A ninth-ranked Bulldogs.

The loss evens the Eagle record at 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the Northeast Hoosier Conference.
