Holden pleads guilty to forgery

December 17, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — A woman accused of using someone else’s checks at a local bar pleaded guilty Monday.

Deborah S. Holden, 55, of Albion, admitted she tried to use a check of another person at Duff’s Bar in Columbia City, which constituted forgery.

Forgery is a Class C felony, punishable by up to eight years in prison.

Schaeffer hits the high notes in Indy

COLUMBIA CITY — Talented. That is one word some would use to describe Hannah Schaeffer, a senior at Columbia City High School.

Hardworking. That would be the other word to describe this teen who recently used both hard work and talent to land a spot on the field at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Schaeffer was given the honor to sing the National Anthem at the IHSAA State Football Championship games Friday, Nov. 29.

WCCS approves building assessment

COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County Consolidated Schools officials made a step toward more forward thinking with the district’s financial plans for its buildings.

At Monday’s Board of Trustees meeting, officials unanimously approved a comprehensive study of the long-term capital needs of all WCCS buildings.

“We want to look at all aspects of the buildings for the next 10 years,” WCCS Superintendent Pat O’Connor told the board.
