COLUMBIA CITY — Saturday’s dog-fighting bust has left many local residents asking the same question, “Why did those people come to Churubusco?”

Brice said typically, dog-fighting rings publish underground magazines, e-mail and text message each other to get the word out about what they call a “dog show.” Saturday night’s show just happened to be hosted in Churubusco.
COLUMBIA CITY — Gun permit applications are still on the rise in Whitley County, as both Columbia City’s Police Department and the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department tripled their applications in December.
In December 2011, the WCSD had 29 total gun permit applications. In December 2012, after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the department has completed 93 applications.
Though the shooting has stirred talks of gun control laws, WCSD Chief Deputy Marc Gatton said he doesn’t think citizens need to fear any immediate restrictions.
