SOUTH WHITLEY — Senior night was a success for the Whitko girls basketball team.
The Lady Wildcats had not been victors on senior night for a few seasons, but they defeated Lakeland Christian Academy Thursday by a final of 55-32 in the last home appearance for Class of 2013 members Cagney Craig, Melanie Kelsey and Josie Sparks. Whitko closes the regular season with a 7-13 record and Lakeland Christian is 4-16 with one game left on its slate.

Whitko girls win on senior night
Carl E. Becker, 89, of Fort Wayne, passed away at 12:31 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
Born May 7, 1923, in Pulaski County, he was the son of Peter and Matilda (Moise) Becker.
He graduated from Winamac High School with the Class of 1941. Carl served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943-46.
Rosalie Steller, 85, passed away Jan. 9, 2013, at The Citadel Care Center in Mesa, Ariz.
Rosalie was born to Lezeth and Justice Bennett Jan. 22, 1927, in South Whitley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Garland and Jim Bennett and her husband, Robert.
Surviving relatives include her older brother, Chuck (Vesta) and their extended family; her sisters, Lavona Shelley and her extended family and Phyllis Joann Beck and her family.
