WHITLEY COUNTY ‚ÄĒ Sunday at approximately 7:30 p.m., two 17-year-old girls from Whitley County were injured in an ATV accident.
At the time of the accident Shannon Kincaid and Nicole Karrer were both riding on a single ATV across an open field in the area of 3899 South CR 400 W in Whitley County. While traveling across the field, the ATV went through a rough, washed out area, causing both girls to be thrown from the vehicle.
Neither of them were wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, and both were initially knocked unconscious after hitting the ground.
SOUTH WHITLEY ‚ÄĒ Whitko‚Äôs boys golf team is looking to rebound in 2013 from its first losing season in five years.
The Wildcats return four letterwinners and will have two newcomers.
Junior Daniel Zawlocki, the 2012 MVP for the Wildcats and an All-Three Rivers Conference golfer, returns.
He is joined by senior Colton LeTourneau, sophomore Cole Bechtold and sophomore Matt Hathaway as letterwinners.
Also returning for Whitko in 2013 will be Andy Bringman, Robert Hopkis, Cole Findley, Matt Myers and Bill Stump.
Whitko has some promising newcomers.
SOUTH WHITLEY ‚ÄĒ Whitko‚Äôs baseball team finally opened its season, after difficult weather conditions, Saturday and split a doubleheader with Marion.
The Wildcats dropped game one by a margin of 9-5, but came back to capture game two by a 10-9 score.
A home run proved to be the winning blast in game two. Tanner Gaff hit a solo shot to break a 9-9 tie and give the Wildcats the eventual win.
‚ÄúTanner Gaff made a great hitting adjustment on his solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning that proved to be the game winner,‚ÄĚ Whitko Head Coach Erik Hisner said.
COLUMBIA CITY ‚ÄĒ Two Pierceton Woods escapees were found in Columbia City early Monday morning.
The two runaways allegedly left the juvenile detention facility, 12 miles west of Columbia City, and stole bicycles.
According to police, the pair rode the bikes to Whitley County and stopped at Walmart on Plaza Drive.
Local police were tipped off to the escapees after a Walmart manager reported a theft.
The two juveniles allegedly stole two new bicycles, along with several other items from the store.
A Richland Township fireman works to contain a large field fire on County Road 475 West, near the 999 south address. Crews from three fire departments, Richland, Cleveland and Columbia, worked to put out the blaze. Several crews in the area battled grass and field fires this weekend, due to windy, dry conditions.
COLUMBIA CITY ‚ÄĒ Emotions made for strong opinions as Eagles members gathered Saturday to discuss the fate of the chapter, the building and the leadership of the Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE) 1906 chapter, Columbia City.
‚ÄúThe future looks very dim,‚ÄĚ said Mike Cummings, an agent dispatched by the Grand Aerie, the state governing body of the FOE, to sort out Columbia City‚Äôs Aerie organization.

PIERCETON ‚Äď A comprehensive five-year plan was laid out for Whitko‚Äôs school corporation at last week‚Äôs board meeting.
Superintendent Steve Clason presented the plan that included specific areas of focus to be implemented inside the school building and out in the community.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) ‚ÄĒ Fort Wayne area police are investigating a string of weekend shootings that left two men dead and two others badly wounded.
An area newspaper reports two of the four weekend shootings happened Sunday. In one, a man died after being critically wounded outside a nightclub. Later in the day, a second man was brought to a Fort Wayne hospital with a gunshot wound and later died.
Police say the other shooting death came Saturday morning when 65-year-old Robert W. Kanyuh was fatally shot during a home invasion at his Allen County home.
