June 20, 2013

PIERCETON — Eric Speicher, Pierceton Elementary School’s principal, will be overseeing Syracuse Elementary School in the fall.

Effective June 30, Speicher’s role with Whitko Community School Corporation will come to an end, a bittersweet change for Speicher.

“I never imagined I would fall in love with this place so quickly,” Speicher said. “I love it here. In some ways it’s killing me to leave.”

Speicher just finished his second year at PES and took the opportunity to move to Syracuse due in part to the history he has there.

SOUTH WHITLEY — Rose Clason has always been content to let her husband Steve, Whitko Community School Corporation’s superintendent, take the limelight.

However, when Rose, 59, was nominated for the district’s Friend of Education Award, she was forced into the spotlight.

“I let Steve be the one that’s out there. I just sit back, help him where I can and help the schools out when I can,” Rose said. “I just try to be the hands and feet of Jesus. If what I do makes a difference in someone’s day, then it’s worth it.”
