IN COURT: Bocskey receives 12-years

COLUMBIA CITY — A Columbia City man who participated in two drug deals this past winter will serve a 12-year sentence at the state level.

Shane Bocskey, 26, pleaded guilty last month to one count of dealing methamphetamine. Bocskey was arrested with Derek Kohut in February after a drug deal at the Walmart parking lot.

Whitley County Circuit Court Judge James Heuer gave Bocskey a 12-year sentence to be served in the Indiana Department of Corrections, with all 12 years to be served.

SHOCKING: News reporter jolted near carnival midway ride

CHURUBUSCO — A Post & Mail reporter received medical treatment for electric shock Thursday night after an incident at Turtle Days in Churubusco.

Nicole Ott, 22, was at the midway at Churubusco’s Town Park at approximately 8:15 p.m., taking photos of the festival, when a bundle of cables underneath a rubber mat allegedly shorted out, causing a spark and brief ignition.

“The doctor said I was lucky I was wearing tennis shoes and not sandals,” Ott said. “The sole of my shoes helped slow the conduction of electricity.”

EDUCATIONAL: National seminar revealing for board

COLUMBIA CITY — An opportunity for outside enrichment proved very beneficial for members of the Whitley County Consolidated Schools Board of School Trustees this year.

Three board members attended the National School Board Association Conference in San Diego this spring.

Board President Don Armstrong, Vice-President Tim Bloom and Bill Tucker said they learned a great deal from seeing the success stories of other school districts.

WHITLEY COUNTY — Whitley County residents are excited for the chance to see their photographs published in a special July publication.

The official start of summer and the longest day of the year is Friday.

To commemorate this unique day, The Post & Mail will publish, “A Day In The Life of Whitley County,” a special publication documenting the activities of Whitley County residents on the longest day of the year.

This is an open invitation to photography enthusiasts, as well as shutterbugs of all types.

Garden walk set for Saturday

Whitley County Master Gardners’ annual garden walk will be Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Until Friday, tickets will be $7 each and can be purchased from: a Master Gardener, Purdue Extension – Whitley County Office, Jones Greenhouse in Churubusco, Hartman’s Lawn & Garden in South Whitley, Portside Pizza at Tri-Lakes, or Saturday at any of the gardens.

Amateur radio field day planned for Saturday

COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County Amateur Radio Field Day will begin Saturday at 2 p.m. and last until Sunday at 2 p.m.

The event is being presented by the Whitley County Amateur Radio Club.
This year, the event will be located at the Copsgear building at 3065 W. U.S. 30, Columbia City. This is a 24 hour event.

The public is invited to come ask questions about amateur radio and see what operators do. They can even help make contacts over the air or send a message to loved ones and friends.

This local event is part of the Amateur Radio Relay League Field Day held across North America.
