COLUMBIA CITY â€” Of the 117 Whitley County School buses inspected by Indiana State Police Trooper Brian Bills, all are ready to go for the upcoming school year.
Bills, of Whitley County, has been conducting bus inspections 17 years (two years full-time) and said all three of Whitley Countyâ€™s school corporations did quite well.
â€śI would put my kids on any one of those buses any day,â€ť Bills said.
â€śAll three of Whitley Countyâ€™s schools do a great job taking care of their buses.â€ť
Donald Raymond Fowler, 56, of Star City, died Thursday morning, July 11, 2013, at his home. He was born July 1, 1957, in Fort Wayne a son of William E. and Sadie (Miracle) Fowler. His formative years were spent in Columbia City.
He was last employed at Brauns in Winamac.
Surviving relatives include two children, Penny Fowler of Hudson and Donald E. (Amanda) Fowler of Columbia City; four grandchildren, Patrick Ittner, Ashley Ittner, Hailey Jackson and Wesley Fowler; his companion, Karen Brewer of Star City; and Brewerâ€™s sons, Curtis McMunn of Star City and Jeremy Gregson of Gary.
Donald Afton York, 83, of Columbia City, passed away at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. Born Oct. 16, 1929, in Puyallup, Wash., he was the son of Wilmer York and Betty (McGaughy) York.
He graduated from Nashua High School in Montana with the Class of 1947. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After the war, he moved to Columbia City to marry Marilee J. Heil April 5, 1953. He worked for Blue Bell for 26 years and retired from Essex Wire and Cable in 1992.
Roger A. Long, 55, of Columbia City, passed away at 9:46 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born April 25, 1958, in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of Junior Long and Rita F. (Jenkins) Long.
Surviving relatives include his five children, sister and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. with an 11 a.m. funeral service at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, 350 S. Ind. 13, Pierceton.
Guy H. Wilson, 84, of Mattawan, Mich., passed away at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Rose Arbor Hospice Home, Kalamazoo, Mich.
Surviving relatives include his wife, June E. Wilson; son, Guy A. Wilson and daughter, Dawn A. (W. Rodney) Stienagel.
Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A full obituary will appear in Saturdayâ€™s paper.
