Expungement law not what it seemed

House Enrolled Act 1482 was designed for individuals to have criminal convictions removed from their record. One hope accompanying the law was to increase potential employment for those with a criminal record.

However, according to Whitley County Superior Court Judge Doug Fahl, it is not the content of the law, but the implementation, that has been a problem during its first month on the books.

ROAD WORK: Improvements expected when project finished

South Line Street has been closed for several projects this summer. Water main work is being done below the surface, and above ground work is being done on sidewalks, curbs and repaving the street. Columbia City Mayor Ryan Daniel said the street will be closed intermittently between now and the end of August. The mayor hoped the project would be finished before the end of the month, but some of the work is dependent on contractor schedules, so he was unsure of a finish date. “We know this can be frustrating for our residents,” Daniel said.
