CHURUBUSCO â€” Churubusco High School is playing host to the Northeast Corner Conferenceâ€™s track meet this week.
Preliminaries began Tuesday night, and the meet will conclude Friday.
Churubuscoâ€™s boys currently sit third in the team rankings, and the girls are in fifth place.
Katie Monk was named conference champion in the girls discus.
In the girls prelims, Alyssa Anderson took eighth in the 100-meter dash to advance. Danielle Pippenger is moving on in the 100-meter hurdles and finished fourth in the long jump.
KENDALLVILLE â€” With an undefeated Northeast Hoosier Conference record on the line and perennial baseball powerhouse Carroll on the schedule for Thursday, Columbia City was on its way to a trap game in Kendallville against East Noble Tuesday night.
However, the Eagles stayed vigilant, taking down the Knights 6-1 behind a complete game by pitcher Ryan Kerschner.
Kerschner only gave up two hits, while striking out five, allowing one earned run and walking two in seven innings.
KENDALLVILLE â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s golf team handed Northeast Hoosier Conference foe East Noble its first loss Tuesday night.
â€śThe conference is loaded and we proved that weâ€™re in the running and can play with the big boys,â€ť Columbia City Head Coach Andrew Thompson said. â€śItâ€™s great to knock off an undefeated team.â€ť
The Eagles, now 2-3 in the NHC, shot a 158 to edge the Knights by four strokes, 158-162.
Columbia Cityâ€™s score is a new low for the year.

COLUMBIA CITY â€” Speaking this week at Columbia Cityâ€™s Rotary Club was Questa representative Marc Levy.
Questa is a Northeast Indiana foundation set up to do principally two things: reduce the typical studentâ€™s loan debt after finishing college, and keep that individual in Northeast Indiana ,contributing to the educational job force in our part of the state.
â€śThe average student in Indiana leaves college with a four-year degree and $27,000 in debt,â€ť Levy said. â€śOften times, they will leave the area to find suitable work,â€ť he added.
Smith-Green Community Schools is still under construction as remodeling continues both inside and out.

COLUMBIA CITY â€” The Whitley County Family YMCA announced recently that it reached its 2013 Strong Kids Campaign goal.
Dan Heise, of Warner Electric, led this yearâ€™s volunteers to reach a community campaign goal of $39,000.
The Strong Kids Campaign provides scholarships for programs and memberships to individuals and families in need.
Funds raised directly support the Yâ€™s cause of strengthening communities by ensuring that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.

COLUMBIA CITY â€” Wood-Land-Lakes, a nonprofit group working across several counties in the state, had a request for funds approved by the Whitley County Commissioners Monday.
The commissioners approved $400 for the group. Stanley Crum, a board member for Wood-Land-Lakes, was on hand, and told commissioners all his organization does, how they are trying to stay in budget, and reach out to stakeholders.
â€śWood-Land-Lakes canâ€™t disappear,â€ť he said. â€śIt is the holder of almost 10,000 acres of agriculture preservation land easements.â€ť
The decision unanimously passed.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” A federal sweep put a Whitley County man in jail for failing to register as a sex offender.
DeWayne Stewart was convicted in 2004 of sexual misconduct with a 15-year-old and child seduction and did not register, adding him to a list of targets, along with hundreds of other fugitives nationwide.
The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Stewart in Huntsville, Ala., officials said in a press release.
Another area man, Mark Lautzenheiser, a convicted rapist from DeKalb County, was also arrested for failing to register as a sex offender and violating his parole.
