SOUTH WHITLEY â In a county-rivalry game against Churubusco, Whitko defeated the Eagles 10-6.
The Wildcats advance to 5-1 on the season while Churubusco drops to 2-3.
Alex Stoddard led Whitko with 4-for-4 batting, scoring three runs with an RBI.
âStoddard was huge out of the lead-off spot, reaching base all five times,â Whitko Head Coach Erik Hisner said. âWe had a lot of guys to a lot of little things tonight to help us earn this victory.â
TERRE HAUTE (AP) â A Connecticut man died and his girlfriend was seriously injured when they were compacted inside a garbage truck after spending the night in a trash bin, police said.
Police responding to a 911 call early Thursday found the body of 46-year-old Franschon Barr in the rear of the garbage truck near a Terre Haute hotel.
SUMMITTVILLE (AP) â A prosecutor said Friday that an Indiana barn where investigators found starving animals living on top of more than 100 rotting carcasses was the worst case of animal cruelty he has seen, while one of the owners maintains that the conditions have been exaggerated.
No charges have been filed against the owners, but Madison County Prosecutor Rodney Cummings said "many counts of animal cruelty are a possibility."
Terry L. Pritchard, 64, of Columbia City, died at 2:40 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2013, at his home after a two-week-long battle with cancer.
He was born April 12, 1949, in Wolf Lake, the only child of Harry R. and Betty I. (Thompson) Pritchard.
His formative years were spent in Richland Township. He graduated from Larwill High School.
He was employed at Weatherhead, North American Van Lines for more than 24 years and Auto Zone.
His memberships included Sons of the American Legion, Eagles #1906 and ABATE of Indiana.
Elbert Verlin âRichâ Richard, 92, passed into his Heavenly rest Monday, April 8, 2013, at his home in Phoenix, Ariz. He was born May 12, 1920, on a farm in Cleveland Township, the second son of Robert Douglas and Rose Ellen (Trout) Richard. He graduated from Columbia City High School in 1938.
Rich married his high school sweetheart, Anna Marie Walter in 1940. Together they have a son, Marc, and a daughter, Rozanne.

COLUMBIA CITY â Columbia Cityâs athletic conference, the Northeast Hoosier Conference, is discussing changes to its member schools.
With the gap of school enrollment continuing to grow, Columbia City High School said Thursday in a press release that conversations have occurred throughout the school year concerning member schools.
âAs a result of these discussions, principals and athletic directors will be considering future conference membership affiliations,â the release stated.
CHURUBUSCO â Churubuscoâs girls tennis team is gearing up for a new season on the courts under Head Coach Natalie Pugh.
The Lady Eagles lost one senior to graduation last summer. Morgan Young played number one singles for half of the 2012 season. For the other half, Young was out with an injury.
âBusco will be rather young this season, but Pugh will still have Kayleen Mitchell on her team for 2013. Mitchell is a returning varsity player entering her senior year.
âI am looking for her to have a successful season,â said Pugh.
COLUMBIA CITY â There might be some new citizens to the community who ask, âWhy a new high school?â
With the announcement of Whitley County Consolidated School Districtâs (WCCS) plan for a new high school in Columbia City, Superintendent Dr. Pat OâConnor explained that, while a new high school will be costly, it is needed.
In fact, it may be needed for new individuals in the community.
