‘What a blessing it is to live here’: Daniel delivers State of the City address Friday

COLUMBIA CITY — The Whitley County Chamber of Commerce hosted Columbia City Mayor Ryan Daniel at Peabody Public Library for the State of the City address Friday afternoon.

Highlighting all of the city’s accomplishments from 2013, and giving an overview of 2014’s upcoming projects, Daniel concluded his speech with a sense of Columbia City pride.

“The state of our city is rising, and as long as our vision remains focused, eyes toward the prize and feet firmly planted on the ground, our city’s future will remain bright,” Daniel said.

Charges doled in ’Busco crash

CHURUBUSCO — A Churubusco man was flown by medical helicopter to the hospital, then charged with driving while suspended Friday morning after he crashed his vehicle head-on into a tree.

According to a police report, Donald Barge, 29, along with two passengers, was traveling southbound on Blue River Drive in Churubusco when, for an unknown reason, drove left of center, across the road and into a tree.

Barge was pinned at the legs and extracted by the Smith Township Fire Department, before being flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center by Samaritan.
