COLUMBIA CITY â€” Minutes after dropping special needs children off at preschool, a Whitley County Consolidated Schools bus was involved in a crash Monday morning. According to initial reports, the school bus was headed northwest on West Linconway at approximately 8:15 a.m., when a southbound passenger vehicle turned into the bus, striking it in front of the rear wheels. â€śI am so glad that no children were on the bus,â€ť said WCCS Transportation Director Keith Kohut.
Both vehicles received substantial damage, but there were no serious injuries reported.

Andrew Luck and Reggie Wayne were back in sync for Indianapolis on Sunday. The 25-year-old quarterback threw for 393 yards and four touchdowns, while the 35-year-old Colts receiver had seven catches for a season-best 119 yards and his first TD of the season, leading the Colts to a 41-17 rout over Tennessee.
KENDALLVILLE â€” After earning its first regional spot since 2006, Columbia Cityâ€™s girls golf season came to a close Saturday. The Lady Eagles placed ninth in a competitive East Noble Regional field at Cobblestone Golf Course in Kendallville. â€śIt was a heavyweight field but we beat some really good teams,â€ť Head Coach Andrew Thompson said.

Rev. J. Phillip Blake, 83, formerly of Columbia City, died at 9:42 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014 at North Ridge Village Nursing and Rehab in Albion where he had been a resident since April 2011.
He was born Aug. 4, 1931, in Delaware County, a son of Joseph H. and Ruth E. (Jackson) Blake.
Phil spent seven years on the farm his great-grandfather homesteaded in 1859 in the Alexandria area. He was educated in the Madison County School system and graduated from Alexandria High School in 1949.
July 25, 1934 â€” Sept. 27, 2014
L. DeWayne Gable, 80, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, at his home.
He was born July 25, 1934 in Whitley County, a son of the late Delmar and Ethel (Miller) Gable.
His formative years were spent in the South Whitley area. He graduated from South Whitley High School.
On March 17, 1956 he was united in marriage to Shirley O. McGrath. They made their home at Gable Acres in rural South Whitley.
In 1957, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to his farm in rural South Whitley.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” In the midst of a snowstorm, sometimes officials are faced with the decision to send children home early from school before roads become impassable. After last yearâ€™s difficult winter, Whitley County Consolidated Schools officials are planning ahead for the event of an early emergency dismissal drill.

COLUMBIA CITY â€” Fall has officially arrived and the Columbia City Main Street Association has announced the schedule of events for the 2014 Whitley County Fall Festival.
The event has been moved to downtown Columbia City and will be Saturday, Oct. 11 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Joyce Lawrence, a resident of rural Whitley County, was surprised to receive a phone call informing her of a sizeable amount of cash she had won.
â€śIt was more than two weeks ago when I received the phone call,â€ť said Lawrence.
