MEMORY-MAKING MOMENTS: Veteran 4-Hers relive county fair

COLUMBIA CITY — Dreams are realized each year at the Whitley County 4-H Fair. With weeks and months of preparation, 4-Hers hope to find success in the show arena. This year was no exception. Several ribbons, trophies and banners were awarded to 4-Hers this week, and among the steers, sheep, swine, chickens and goats, memories were made.

EARLY QUALIFIES FOR USATF NATIONALS: Wins twice in Regional

HUNTINGTON — Jasmine Early, of Columbia City, has continued her stellar summer of running by qualifying for the weekend for the USA Track & Field (USATF) Junior Olympic National Championship in Houston next week. Early, age 12, who will be a seventh grader this fall at Indian Springs Middle School, captured two first-place finishes Sunday competing against 13- and 14-year-old girls at the USATF Regional Championships at Huntington University.

ROTARY PAYS TRIBUTE: 4-H, FFA volunteers and livestock judging

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s Rotary Club took time to recognize adult volunteers with Whitley County’s 4-H and FFA programs, along with some of its student participants. Greg Rupert, who has been involved in the programs for 10 years, has been instrumental in leading young people under his charge to three national titles in livestock judging.

UNIQUE CHEERLEADING SQUAD: Dazzlers prepare for start of new season

COLUMBIA CITY — A unique cheerleading squad is gearing up to begin its season, and new participants are welcome. The Whitley County Dazzlers is a special needs squad that offers school-aged children the opportunity to perform and compete despite physical handicaps.

FINE FEATHERED FRIENDS: Poultry show produces heavyweight winnerss

COLUMBIA CITY — Feathers were flying and wings were flapping at the Whitley County 4-H Fair’s Poultry Barn Sunday. 4-Hers presented a variety of chickens, turkeys, water fowl and other feathered projects during the Poultry Show.
