The Indian Springs Middle School varsity girls cross country team came in fourth out of 31 teams at the West Noble Invitational Saturday. The team was led by Jasmine Early who came in fourth. The ISMS boys placed eighth out of 31 teams at the invite. Landon Wakeman and Nathan Mills both placed in the top 25 for ISMS. COLUMBIA CITY â It was a scene that rivaled any Western movie lot. The only thing missing from The Woodlands Senior Center birthday celebration was tumbleweed blowing in the wind. Each month the senior center, located at 710 N. Opportunity Dr. in Columbia City, hosts a birthday party for all its participants.
SOUTH WHITLEY â Coming hot off of its victory against Wabash Tuesday, the Whitko Lady Wildcats varsity volleyball team defeated the Hamilton Marines Thursday night, 3-0. Now, with an 8-2 record, the Lady Wildcats are just one game shy of tying last seasonâs record of nine wins.

OLUMBIA CITY â Thousands of dollars in a bank account may be of no use in the event of an emergency, especially as winter approaches. Whitley County Emergency Management Director Charlie Heflin is reminding citizens to keep some cash on-hand. The convenience of technology, Heflin said, is no big deal. However, Heflin is reminding citizens that technology isnât completely fail-safe.
WHITLEY COUNTY â Patches of dense fog have developed across Whitley County and surrounding counties this morning prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Dense Fog Advisory. Sources say the fog will begin to lift by 9 am.
WHITLEY COUNTY â Elementary students from Whitley County will get a unique opportunity Friday to see what their futures could look like, as they step foot on the campus of Manchester University as part of Walk Into My Future. The event is part of the local âPromiseâ initiative taking place in four northern Indiana counties, including Whitley County.
CHURUBUSCO â Now in its third year, the annual Churubusco Town Garage Sale will take place this weekend Saturday and Sunday. Approximately 70 homes have signed up for the event. The annual garage sale brings travelers from as far as Michigan and Ohio to Turtle Town in the search for deals and treasures. At Churubusco Park Saturday there will be a Churubusco Chamber of Commerce versus Smith Township Fire Department softball game at 3 p.m.
SOUTH WHITLEY â Both Whitko boys and girls soccer teams faced off against the Eastbrook Panthers Wednesday. The boys team ended the game with a tie, finishing 1-1. The Lady Wildcats were hard-pressed to score against the Lady Panthers and fell 0-6.
COLUMBIA CITY â A unique field trip allowed elementary school students in Whitley County a hands-on learning experience. Whitley County Soil and Water Conservation District hosted its Conservation Field Days for the fifth grade students from Mary Raber, Little Turtle, Northern Heights, and Coesse elementary schools at the Whitley County 4-H Fairgrounds Sept. 10 and 11.
