Nov. 27, 1936 â€” Dec. 21, 2014
George W. Atkinson, 78, of Columbia City, passed away at 6:02 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born Nov. 27, 1936 in Coudersport, Pa., he was the son of George â€śWillâ€ť and Violet (Peet) Atkinson.
He graduated from Coudersport High School with the Class of 1954 and served in the U.S. Air Force with time spent in Labrador. In 1961, he received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Indiana Institute of Technology.
Oct. 27, 1912 â€” Dec. 18, 2014
Florence E. Keiser, 102, formerly of Columbia City, died at 7:27 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Muncie where she had been a resident since March.
She was born Oct. 27, 1912 in Whitley County, a daughter of Elmer Franklin and Dessie Belle (Smith) Schrader. Her formative years were spent in Columbia Township where she had perfect attendance at the Schrader School all eight years.

The students at Northern Heights were in the giving spirit. For one week, the students dug through their pantries and cupboards to find canned or boxed foods for those in need. The school collected a total of 5,490 food items for local food pantries. The class that brought in the most items will get to throw pies at their principal, Jake Hoag.
