COLUMBIA CITY â€” The scent of burgers and potato salad filled the air near the steps of the Whitley County Courthouse Friday.Whitley County employees were served a cookout by their elected commissioners.
Kevin Thompson, of Tim Smith Construction, removed the letters atop the entryway of Columbia Cityâ€™s City Hall before repainting it. As part of the spruce up, both pillars were also replaced.

COLUMBIA CITY â€” An investigation has started involving Whitley County Auditor Jennifer McGuire and county funds she managed as part of her duties. According to Whitley County Commissioners, McGuire is on voluntary leave until further notice.
â€śI want to publicly apologize to my friends and family, my co-workers and to the citizens of Whitley County for my poor judgment,â€ť McGuire responded in a written statement to The Post & Mail.
No official charges have been filed â€” Commissioners were adamant that specific details were still being uncovered as of Friday.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Indiana Department of Transportation made an announcement Friday that work on U.S. 30 would resume today. Originally the project was to continue Friday, but as the morning commute began, no road crews were in sight.
The Post & Mail posted on its website (www.thepostandmail.com) Friday that Columbia City Mayor Ryan Daniel had been informed by INDOT officials that work was to be delayed until today.
LOGANSPORT (HSPA) â€” The rising cost of farming expenses is making it tougher for young farmers to get into agriculture, according to a national census.

COLUMBIA CITY â€” With the final bang of the gavel, Whitley Countyâ€™s 4-H Fair auction closed with a record setting total of $405,844.98 July 17.
Several individual records were set at the 2014 auction.
WHITLEY COUNTY (July 25, 2014) -- Whitley County Commissioners and Whitley County Prosecutor Matt Rentschler announced earlier today that Whitley County Auditor Jennifer McGuire is being investigated for alleged improprieties while acting in her county government position.
