HELPING HANDS: Congregations work together to benefit city

COLUMBIA CITY — Five area churches gathered to form a community service group called Impact Whitley.

Recently Impact Whitley served in four different locations throughout the county with a goal to “impact Whitley County for Christ.”

SELECTIVE TAKEDOWN: Certain trees more prone to topple amid storms

WHITLEY COUNTY — Tuesday’s storm rolled in like a bully. It picked certain neighborhoods, parks and trees to smash and left others with a mere slap.

The damage visible in the southern part of Whitley County was much different than the few limbs and trees that were downed farther north.
Local experts say trees that were unlucky — often plucked up roots and all — was due to a function of the storm’s selective nature and sometimes the trees’ health.

Jane Yohe, of rural Whitley County, saw a large tree in her yard uprooted and so did Brad Arnold who owns a home off Meridian Road.

CONDEMNED: Home condemned after meth lab bust

CHURUBUSCO — A Whitley County home was condemned this week after police found an active meth lab in the bathroom of a trailer near Churubusco.
