COLUMBIA CITY â A Columbia City man is facing a charge of dealing methamphetamine.
Jacob A. Hinen, 28, was arrested Dec. 6 and is accused of possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance in addition to the methamphetamine dealing charge.
Hinen was arrested along with his girlfriend, Kindra M. Wine, 24, of Columbia City.

Tuesday, Ind. Gov. Mike Pence released his 2014 Education Agenda, detailing his proposals for bettering education across the state.
âWe need to work today to do what is necessary for our children to be successful tomorrow,â Pence said. âOur fundamental moral obligation as parents is the well-being of our children and their preparedness for life after they leave home.â
(Dec. 13, 2013) â After bitterly-cold temperatures made worse by winds yesterday, conditions will be more moderate today with highs in the upper 20s this afternoon.
Snow will begin to accumulate by midnight tonight with 3 to 6" spread over the area into early Saturday afternoon.
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the area. Snow is anticipated to continue through Saturday morning making travel conditions difficult.

Angels, wise men and gift bearers were part of the cast at Churubusco United Methodist Church for the Festival of the Hanging of the Greens Saturday and Sunday. The annual holiday program featured live animals, music and pageantry. Cast members worked two weeks to put together this yearâs presentation. The festival has been an annual tradition for the church for a number of decades.
Whitley County Consolidated Schools Board of School Trustees will meet Monday at 5:30 p.m.
Items on the agenda include the introduction of the districtâs school resource officer, Mike Peterson, and a presentation by Maintenance Director Dan Rex.
Smith-Green Community Schools Board of School Trustees will meet Monday at 7 p.m.
Whitko Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees will meet Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Carolyn J. Jones, 89, of Columbia City, died at 8:17 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Parkview Whitley Hospital. She was born July 19, 1924, in Kendallville, a daughter of Cyril G. and Audrey M. (Lawson) Kollman.
She grew up in Avilla until the late 1930s when the family moved to New Haven. She graduated from New Haven High School in 1943.
She was employed at Lincoln Life Insurance for 25 years, retiring in 1979. After retirement, she worked at the Otis Bowen Center for six years.
Churubusco United Methodist Church held its annual holiday program, âFestival of the Hanging of the Greens,â Saturday. Cast members prepared of the first night of the festival, which featured elaborate decorations for the season as well as live animals, music and dramatic presentations. COLUMBIA CITY â Nu Thetaâs chapter of Sigma Phi Gamma and Walgreenâs, in Columbia City, are sponsoring a gift-giving opportunity.
âPlay Santa for a Senior,â allows the community to purchase presents for seniors in Whitley County.
A tree is provided at the cosmetics counter inside Walgreenâs with suggestions for gifts. All gifts will be delivered to the Whitley County Council on Aging Dec. 20.
âThis program was a roaring success last year,â said program coordinators. âLetâs make it even better this year.â
COLUMBIA CITY â All three individuals facing drug charges in the same case pleaded not guilty this week.
Shawn D. Arnold, 22, Melissa R. Smith, 36, and Kearsten E. Britten, 19, all of Columbia City, will be back in court in early January.
Arnold is charged with dealing in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of a synthetic drug, possession of paraphernalia and maintaining a common nuisance. The most serious charge is dealing in methamphetamine is a Class B felony, punishable by a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
