Sheila S. West-Wilhelm, 40, of Columbia City, died Saturday, March 5, 2011 at her residence. She was born Sept. 13, 1970 to William C. and Rozella M. (Wince) Wicker.
She was a lifetime Columbia City resident and attended Columbia City High School. She was employed at Home Nursing of Fort Wayne as a home health aide. On April 8, 2005 she married Neil Wilhelm in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
Mary Ann T. Harvey, 76, of Decatur died Monday, March 7, 2011 at Lutheran Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Gary of Decatur; three daughters; two sons, including Brian Harvey; and one brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Father David Voors officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Decatur.
Viewing will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home, Decatur, with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 2:30 p.m.
COLUMBIA CITY — What to do with a long-vacant industrial property that could use a serious cleanup may soon be a problem of the past.
Whitley County’s Economic Development Corporation has been paving the way since last year for the sale of the former Dana plant located at 643 W. Ellsworth Street in Columbia City.
Novae Corporation, a manufacturer of utility trailers and commercial lawn equipment with facilities in Markle, North Manchester and a small operation in Columbia City, is considering purchasing the 11.725-acre property in western Columbia City.

The board room for the Whitley County Consolidated School Corporation’s Board of School Trustees was standing room only.
Administrators braced for what was expected to be an outcry against proposed staffing cuts in the corporation due to a revenue shortfall.
Instead, no one spoke up on behalf of teaching positions that may have to be scaled back for financial reasons, but rather took to the podium to request an addition to the school system’s budget.
As the Columbia City boys’ basketball team went home with a sectional championship Saturday night, the three Eagles that led in scoring in a 67-66 win over Wawasee had another reason to celebrate.
Monday, the Northeast Hoosier Conference announced its all-conference teams.
The NHC was a conference filled with sophomore talent in the 2010-11 season. That also included Columbia City.
Five sophomores made the first-team list with Columbia City (17-5) garnering two of those.

A block of seats at Parkview Field have been set aside for Columbia City people for the June 14 game against the Dayton Dragons. Game time is 7:05 p.m.

Through Passages’ art program these clients and many others get the chance to use their artistic talents, and on March 17, they are selling their works of art during the “Paintings, Pickles and Patrick” fundraiser.

Kreig family reunited as SSGT Krieg comes home from Iraq deployment.
COLUMBIA CITY — A lady likes to make an entrance and Piper Krieg is no exception.
It almost seemed she orchestrated circumstances to assure she would be at the airport to meet her daddy when he returned home from Iraq after seven months away from home.
SSgt Scott Krieg is full-time active duty with the 122nd fighter wing security forces squadron based out of Fort Wayne. He lives with his wife Pam (Reed) Krieg and daughters in Columbia City when not deployed.
Helen M. Furnas, 81, formerly of Columbia City, died at 8 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Peabody Home, North Manchester where she had been a resident since 2002.
She was born Aug. 2, 1929 in Cass County, Mich., a daughter of Floyd and Helen Margaret (Kantz) Adams. Her formative years were spent in Michigan. She graduated from Constantine High School.
On Oct. 22, 1949 she was united in marriage to Lawrence E. Furnas. They made their home in Fort Wayne until 1964 when they moved to rural Columbia City. Mr. Furnas died April 5, 1995.
