’Busco tennis evens NECC record at 2-2

CHURUBUSCO — After a struggling start to the season, Churubusco’s tennis team improved its Northeast Corner Conference record to 2-2 this week, beating Central Noble Tuesday and Prairie Heights Thursday.

The Eagles downed the Panthers 4-1, with wins in all divisions, excluding No. 2 doubles.

No. 1 singles Luke Lillmars pummelled his Prairie Heights opponent, 6-0, 6-0. In No. 2 singles, Cody Luttman won a lopsided 6-2, 6-0 match.
Landon Lillmars won the forfeit in No. 3 singles, as Prairie Heights didn’t have enough players for a full team.

’Busco tops Eastside in 5 games

BUTLER – After a long week of matches for Churubusco’s volleyball team, the Lady Eagles defeated Eastside Thursday night for their third match in four days.

’Busco won in five games after the long trip to Butler. After winning the first game 25-15, the Lady Eagles lost the second in a close 25-22 competition. Churubusco retaliated with a 25-11 win in the third game, but lost the fourth 25-19.

The Lady Eagles won the fifth and final game by a close 15-12 margin.
Gabby Jones led ’Busco in aces with three. She also had 10 digs.

Kelly Walda, 54

Kelly Dale Walda, 54, of Columbia City, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, in the state of Washington.
Mr. Walda was born in Fort Wayne on March 6, 1958, to Dale Eugene Walda and Delores Maxine (Burtt) Walda.
His dad preceded him in death on April 2, 1999.
He graduated from Norwell High School in 1976, and served his country in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborn. He married Beverly Ann Sykes on Sept. 2, 1995.

Poll respondents on the home page of www.thepostandmail.com have predicted Churubusco High School's football team "to have the best won-loss record" in the county by the end of the football season. Churubusco received 55% of the votes, Columbia City High School 35% and Whitko High School 10%.

COLUMBIA CITY — The Drug Task Force made a presentation at the Columbia City Common Council meeting Tuesday on the dangers of methamphetamine, its origins, how it is made and why it has become a big problem.

DECALS: Col. City’s golf cart owners could be required to display proof of permits

COLUMBIA CITY — An amendment was passed on first reading in regards to city golf cart permits at the Columbia City Common Council meeting Tuesday. It will be moved to a second reading at the next meeting Sept. 11.
With the county recently adopting an ordinance, Columbia City Police Chief Tim Longenbaugh said the city’s regulations state that those who operate golf carts in the city must have a city permit.
“I thought the golf carts could have some kind of a placard or decal that the permit holders could attach to the golf cart,” said Longenbaugh.

Marlene Green, 73

Marlene Joyce Green, 73, a resident of Churubusco, passed away at 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Columbia City.
Ms. Green was born on Sept. 22, 1938, in Matoon, Ill., a daughter of Joe and Geneva Louise (Thompson) Fulk.
She was a member of the ladies auxiliaries of both the Churubusco Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Turtle Post 3846 and the Gilbert Davis American Legion Post 157 in Churubusco.
