Pauline Gottschalk, 83

March 8, 2012

SOUTH WHITLEY — J. Pauline Gottschalk, 83, died at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Renaissance Village where she had been a resident since March of 2009.
She was born March 14, 1928, in Madison County, a daughter of Arte O. and Mabel M. (Cloud) Ice.
Her formative years were spent in Summitville.
She graduated from Summitville High School.
On Oct. 1, 1947, she was united in marriage to Lester H. Gottschalk.
They made their home on a farm near South Whitley. In 1979, they moved to their home in South Whitley. Mr. Gottschalk died Feb. 17, 1980.

Turtle Days Fish Fry
set for Friday
CHURUBUSCO — A Turtle Days Fish Fry fund raiser will be held March 9 at 11 a.m. at the American Legion Post 157.
All you can eat is $8, dinner is $7 and sandwiches are $5. Carry-out is available. All proceeds will benefit the Turtle Days Festival.

Danny Morgan, 66

March 7, 2012

Danny Dwayne Morgan, 66, of Bluffton and formerly of Naples, Fla., died at 1:47 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012, at his residence.
Mr. Morgan was born in Muncie on July 4, 1945, to Paul Earnest Morgan and Mary Alice Knapp Morgan.
He married Debborah Lynn Cowan in Beaufort, S.C., on Sept. 30, 1966. She survives in Naples, Fla.

Lawrence Pressler, 62

COLUMBIA CITY — Lawrence “Larry” W. Pressler, 62, of Columbia City, died at 12:15 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2012, at his home. He had been in failing health.
He was born March 19, 1949, in Wabash, a son of Larry G. and Betty (Stark) Pressler.
His formative years were spent in South Whitley.
He graduated from South Whitley High School in 1967. He then attended Sams Technical Institute, Indianapolis.
On June 19, 1971, he was united in marriage to Melanie J. Kyler. They made their home in Columbia City.

Renée Stewart, 96

COLUMBIA CITY — Renée Gilberte Juilette Surget Stewart, 96, of Columbia City, died at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012, at her daughter Alice Kinzer’s home in Beaverton, Ore. where she had resided since 2010.
She was born July 21, 1915, in Chailland, Mayenne, France, the fifth child of Louis and Marie-Louise Surget.
Her formative years were spent in Paris, where she attended and graduated as a lab technician from Scientia-Private School in Paris in 1937.

James Earnhart, 83

ALBION — James M. “Jim” Earnhart, 83, well known Noble County farmer and a resident of rural Albion, passed away at 12:19 p.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012, at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville following a lengthy illness.
He had been taken to the hospital from his home earlier in the day.
Mr. Earnhart was born March 12, 1928, in Kosciusko County, a son of Arby Nelson and Mary (Doke) Earnhart, and moved to Green Township in Noble County as a child with his parents.
He spent his formative years on the family farm there and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1947.

Logan Gibson, 53

Anthony Logan Gibson, 53, a resident of Merriam, passed away unexpectedly at 11:07 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at his home.
Mr. Gibson was born on April 19, 1958, in Morehead, Ky., a son of Clayton L. and Ruth Lee (Terrell) Gibson, and moved to this area as a child with his parents.
He graduated from Central Noble High School in 1976, and lived in Merriam most of his life.
He had been employed as the purchasing manager at Pro Systems in Churubusco since 1997, and attended Cornerstone Wesleyan Church, Merriam.

Judy Heathman, 73

Judy A. Heathman, 73, of Port Saint Lucie, Fla. passed away March 5, 2012, in Port Saint Lucie.
Mrs. Heathman was born Sept. 18, 1938, in Fort Wayne, Indiana and came to Port Saint Lucie from Champaign, Ill. in 1978.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Calvin Heathman of Port Saint Lucie; daughter, Rhonda Blakey and her husband, Mark Blakey; and grandson, Benjamin Blakey, all of Port Saint Lucie.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Vivian Hendrickson; and brother, Herbert Hendrickson.
Private arrangements are with Yates Funeral Home, Port Saint Lucie.

HISTORIC RANCH FIRE: Owners begin recovery of lost barn

COLUMBIA CITY — Smoke rolled across the serene landscape; Laurel Stockamp wandered around the charred timber, inspecting the extensive damage and remembering the tall, long structure as it was more than a week ago. Barrels of hay and ash remain untouched for inspection after a morning fire engulfed Stockamp Ranch’s main bank barn before spreading to the exercise barn and finally the loafing barn.

Shaking her head in disbelief at the sight, Laurel said, “Everyone will remember the big fire here.”
