The National Weather Service says a winter storm could drop more than a foot of snow on far northern Indiana and bring wind-whipped blowing and drifting snow.
Snow was falling across much of Indiana on Thursday afternoon but only lightly in Indianapolis and points further south.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Opinions on the wind turbine issue were blowing in opposite directions Wednesday when the Whitley County Plan Commission met to review and modify a proposed ordinance designed to govern the installation of such devices.
Though the commission reviewed most of a draft of the proposed ordinance, there are several as-yet unresolved issues â€” including that topic which helped draw more than 100 residents to the Wednesday night meeting â€” setbacks.

TOPEKA â€” Churubusco dropped out of the Northeast Corner Conference Tournament Wednesday night with a loss to the 10-1 Westview Warriors.
The Eagles faced Westview in their second game of the season and lost 47-31. Churubusco improved Wednesday night, only losing by an eight-point margin, 38-30.
The Eagles had a 6-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and matched Westviewâ€™s scoring in the second at eight to make a 14-13 score at halftime in favor of Churubusco.
The Warriors took over in the third quarter, outscoring â€™Busco 15-6 and taking a 28-20 lead going into the fourth quarter.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s senior wrestlers competed in the Donald S. Weeks Gymnasium for the last time of their high school careers Wednesday night. The Eagles hosted DeKalb and lost, 46-27.
â€śIâ€™m really proud of how well the guys competed tonight,â€ť Columbia City Head Coach Blane Culp said. â€śWe were questioning if we were even going to win a match tonight.â€ť
COLUMBIA CITY â€” SRI Incorporated, a firm that conducts tax sales, deed sales, and foreclosure sales on the Internet or in-person for local government clients, extended its partnership with Whitley County Tuesday regarding an upcoming tax sale.
SRI President Tim Rushenberg appeared before the Whitley County Board of Commissioners to present three contracts necessary to conduct the sale.
ALBION â€“ Denise Lemmon, of rural Albion formally filed Wednesday her intent to seek the Republican nomination for State Representative in the newly formed 82nd State House district.
The new 82nd State House district covers all of Noble County, as well as portions of Allen, Whitley, Elkhart, and LaGrange counties.
Lemmonâ€™s declaration of candidacy will be filed with the County Clerkâ€™s Offices of each of the districtâ€™s counties prior to being submitted to the Indiana Election Division.
Emanuel Geiger will be 100 years old Jan. 16, 2012.
On Sunday, Jan. 22, an open house will be held in his honor, 2 to 4 p.m., at the Churubusco Nazarene Church Christian Life Center, 1000 W. Whitley St., in Churubusco.

Geiger was born in Rome City on Jan. 16, 1912 to Emanuel A. and Matilda (McCoy) Geiger. He was the yougest of nine children.
Emanuel Geiger married Mabel M. (Cotton) April 17, 1929. She is deceased.
COLUMBIA CITY â€” Richard K. Bishop, 74, of Columbia City, died at 10:22 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at The Oaks Living Center.
He was born Sept. 5, 1937, in Chicago, a son of William and Helen (Blain) Bishop.
On July 22, 1962, he was united in marriage to Sondra Kay Simpson.
