Local photographer’s work valued by Smithsonian

   The National Air and Space Museum in  the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. has an interest in Whitley County native William E. Jones. In fact, $42,000 worth of interest.
   Jones has compiled a scrapbook of photos and memorabilia from his career as an Army Air Corps aerial photographer/gunner from World War II.

Second candidate files for council

   A second candidate has decided to run for county council.
   Matt Boyd submitted his formal declaration Friday to be a candidate in the upcoming caucus to fill the Whitley County Council At-Large seat being vacated by Councilman Jim Banks on Nov. 2.
   “I have been interested in government since my freshman year in college and believe the Council At-Large seat is the perfect opportunity for me to serve my county,” Boyd said.  

Not ready to give up hope

   A visit to her daughter, Gretchen, and son-in-law, Brandon, began when Lois Pelz and her long-time boyfriend, Randy Knach, arrived in Las Vegas at 3:15 p.m. on June 4, 2009. They were due home a week later when Lois and Randy would be back at work in Indiana.

CCHS gets new student dean

   As administrators at Columbia City High School focus on development of Eagle Tech Academy at the Marshall Community Center, they will get some extra help with their responsibilities from a new part-time dean of students.
   Andrew McDaniel, an English teacher at CCHS, was approved this week by the board of school trustees for the part-time position for the first two trimesters of this school year, effective Tuesday.
