COLUMBIA CITY — The Columbia City Electric Department put the finishing touch on a nearly two-year project Friday.
The department, doing most of the work in its spare time, has successfully changed out over 4,500 electric meters, the device that measures the amount of electric energy consumed by a residence, business, or electronically powered device.
Two years ago the city was contacted to gauge interest in purchasing an over-stock of meters at a discount price.
“We got them for a very inexpensive price,” said Electric Department Superintendent Larry Whetstone.
