Local draft horse doubles as model

TRI-LAKES — In a quiet Whitley County woods lives a model of sorts.
Her name is Emma. She’s 10 years old, weighs 1,700 pounds, is just over five feet tall and can pull more than twice her weight.
Emma’s feet are as big as mixing bowls.

S. Whitley’s Fall Festival suffers setback

SOUTH WHITLEY — Dating back to 1976, the South Whitley Fall Festival included the highly-anticipated bed race, bringing thousands of people to the community.
In fact, this small hometown became known as the “Bed Race Capital of the World” as years progressed.

Houser appeal denied

COLUMBIA CITY — The Court of Appeals of Indiana on Tuesday denied an appeal by a Columbia City man convicted of murdering his ex-wife in 2009.
Rodney Houser was charged Nov. 18, 2009 with the beating death of his ex-wife, Debra.
